Re: Engine swap for 1.8

Great.
Always more to learn.
Thanks Chris.

I wonder if the BW45 could be used, it worked so well in the Hillman Hunter and I am sure most small bore 4 cylinder engines would prefer the 4-speed.

Re: Hazards work, indicators don't?

Hi there.
I am not sure what the mini items look like, but so many parts were utilised in different vehicles of the conglomerate it is highly probable.

Re: Hazards work, indicators don't?

My Mk3 Marinas have a complex switch that is responsible for allowing hazard lights to operate via two separate flasher units. The sheer number of contacts within the switch mean that usually after operating it, weird symptoms are experienced when trying to use normal indicator functions. Operating ...

Re: Engine swap for 1.8

Most Marina 1800's used the BW65 auto, which is totally bullet-proof on small bore engines. The fact that these engines feature a long stroke means that they are quite effective even with only a 3-speed auto. I chose to elicit more horsepower from the 1800 - multiple choices of overbores available t...

Re: HOT BOX

The O series airfilter had a temperature operated flapper valve which directed hot air from the manifold housing into the filter, or cold air from the front panel as things warmed up. They had a nasty habit of making annoying vibration noises so many were removed. Especially by me. Although living i...

Re: Mk3 Gold saloon

You may find that it is just the new rings making the crankshaft difficult to turn.

I have had a lot of trouble with the oil pump seals leaking in the past. It is a good idea to spend some time smoothing the surface where the seal runs on the crankshaft just forward of the keyway.

Re: Alternator voltage

The alternator is responsible for charging the battery and supplying the electrics while the engine is running. If the battery is not fully charged after a decent run then both battery and alternator plus all connections in between are under suspicion. If you charge the battery fully using a battery...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Well that shows a willingness to learn.. Welcome aboard, you can get advice here that you don't even need.! Lol. I once bought a Marina that had a combination lock on the handbrake lever. Inevitably I forgot the combination and had to hacksaw it off. But it has always been fun. Not many cars give as...

Re: Mk3 Gold saloon

Great work there, and well done with the 2 litre, they go really well.
For future reference I have quite an assortment of new bearing sets and I am pretty sure there are standard sets there.
Best luck.

Re: Which tyres for Superlite 7x13 alloys?

Strangely enough, you will also find that the rear axle is not mounted centrally in the body. With my Superlites and these tyres, the left rear wheel arch will make contact with the outer edge of the tyre on full compression. The cure is quite simple, as there is a fold on the lower edge of the arch...

Re: Lowering blocks

I have used quite a few lowering blocks over the years, and I had them made locally. They also made the longer U bolts for me. At some point I decided to try just having the springs reset to give the same effect, so this was done to two sets of springs, also 2". This led to two problems. The fi...

Re: Which tyres for Superlite 7x13 alloys?

The 205's also make contact with the inside lower edge of the front guard, but that has more to do with the fact that these Superlites are 7" wide with 100mm backspace - which is the minimum required to clear the suspension upright - so the outer edge of the wheel rim is further toward the edge...

205/60x13
I think the profile looks suitably in keeping with the age of the vehicle.
And you don't lose gearing..

Re: Forums or Facebook?

I suspect - from my own experience - that our actual involvement with the vehicles has slowed, and therefore the lack of forum activity is simply an echo of this. It is not that we have lost enthusiasm for our vehicles of choice, but more that life has forced us to place our attentions elsewhere. Fa...
