Only experience I have had with wrong no of teeth on a pinion, was a MK 2 Transit. It had heavy duty flywheel, was a 2.0 petrol but had a V6 flywheel was very noisy starter had one tooth either bigger or smaller cant remember which now.

If you have been swapping starter motors around and that's all you have changed. Remove the starter and see if the engine frees up power outputs of both types of starter are similar.

Inertia type starter. Original Unipart number GXE4418. Cross Reference 25609, 25659, 25555, LRS00289, 25598, GXE4418, LRS289 Lucas motor type number M418G.

If its a inertia Starter you want listing sounds and reads as correct. Have you measured your voltages as I posted above?

I don't disagree. When we had the 25 year rolling free VED there were lost of old cars suddenly on the roads, possibly why it was frozen at 1973. lots of old Barn finds on ebay reminding you its MOT exempt!! in advert. if a few of those cars end up on the road unchecked and in accidents, worse still...

You can have a MOT style check and use the V112 form. If you want it to be listed on the MOT data base, we can only carry out a full MOT to the current regulations. From my point of view as a MOT station owner, when the MOT computer was revised on 20th May 2018 there were not two standards of test set. Be best to measure the volt drop in earth circuit and check you are getting 10 volts at starter under cranking earth volt drop should not exceed 0.50 volts cranking ideally 0.25 volts

Mick there is a set of 13inc chrome trim rings on ebay listed for MG Midget I found them a while ago when deciding what to do on my MK3 Coupe just checked a set still listed item number 361290275036
