Re: MOT exemption

No, there was a concern, but the DVLA clarified that it wasn’t the case.

Re: MOT exemption

Don’t confuse MOT exemption with Historic Vehicle zero VED. Your MOT status has nothing to do with the VED tax rate. Whether you declare your car is MOT exempt or you get an MOT pass, you still have zero VED, as VED is based just on date of manufacture and not whether the car is roadworthy or not.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

You won’t get the “doesn’t need an MOT” message until your existing MOT runs out.

Re: MOT exception

As I am putting my Coupe back on the road after 5 years, I will have it MOT’d this year to have a third party check my work, not sure about future years though.

Re: Wheels nuts...

As long as they were 3/8” unf that’s all that’s important.

Re: Wheels nuts...

The thread is 3/8” unf, the nuts must have a 60 degree angle, for them to seat into the wheel centre properly.

Re: Carbon deposits(?) in cooling system

All B series engines in Marinas were painted black, both the head and block.

Re: Carbon deposits(?) in cooling system

I have freed off a B series head by removing the rockers, leaving the plugs in and turning the engine over a few times and using the compression to pop the head off. I have also heard, but not tried, removing the plugs, feeding soft rope like sash cord into each cylinder after removing the the rocke...

Re: Carbon deposits(?) in cooling system

Unlike modern car head bolts, which are designed to stretch when tightening and as a result can’t be re-used, A & B series engines use non-stretch studs screwed into the top of the block face, so they should be reusable. However if a stud unscrews from the block when you take the head off, you shoul...

Looking good, did you measure the PCD wheel stud spacing in the end?

Re: Carbon deposits(?) in cooling system

Go for a Payen gasket. They have rubber compression seals built in, which help to avoid future head gasket failure.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

There are two things with lever arms, the bump and rebound resistance and the bushes keeping everything in line. You can check the bushes for movement. There used to be companies that would replace the bushes, but I haven’t heard of anyone doing it for about 10 years, does anyone know who might rebu...

Re: Carbon deposits(?) in cooling system

Sounds like the head gasket leaking between one or more cylinders and the water jacket. If you are lucky it’s just the gasket, however it’s always best if removing the head to check the flatness of both the cylinder head and the top of the block, with a steel rule after removing all traces of the ga...
