Re: 70's PIF featuring a Marina

Here's the other public info advert I remember from my childhood involving a Marina. Should have been about speeding looking by the state of the car!

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

I'd imagine the Montego would have been the Morris Marina if Leyland kept with the name and the Morris brand. Into the 90's I'd imagine it would have been updated to look more aerodynamic with cleaner lines like every other car at that time.

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

Yeah, there is no way to cut toughened glass unless it go's through the tempering process again. Not something that can be done in the back garden. The only options it seems is perspex or custom glass, the latter being impossible as it would be astronomically expensive!

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

By using the n/s front door glass for the o/s rear and vice versa, the mk3 door glass is ideal. It has the perfect profile and only needs a small amount of trimming to fit.

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

I'm looking at TTM and thinking   I mean, why not? She's a wreck of a car and I have the parts to make it work. It's not a sudden idea I've had, I've thought about it for a long time and I have various sketches and measurements, it can be done quite easily. Plan would be, I'd push the B ...

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

Yes, IVA would probably be needed. I've seen Mini "shorty's" which have obviously been chopped so I guess it can be done. I think the Marina Coupe and saloon have the same wheelbase. Lengthening the front door would probably better as there isn't much sill between the edge of the door and rear wheel...

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

I do want to have a go at a two door saloon. What are the laws on cutting a car in half to shorten the wheelbase?

Re: Rear side window frame on coupe

I have a tin full of these trim bits but I think they're a mix from other cars of the time. I have some for the windscreens of a Marina SDL but I don't know if they will work for side windows. If you give me some dimensions I can check them against some of the corner pieces I have, I might have one ...

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

I've always fancied doing an extended two door, or a two door saloon. Finding door glass that's long enough would be the hardest part I guess. You'd have to have custom glass made, unless there's a car out there with glass in almost identical profile that could be cut.
