Re: Carbon deposits(?) in cooling system

The head sounded like a right nightmare to deal with! Perseverance pays off  Have you checked the pipe under the carb? It has a spring around it to stop it from getting kinked but sometimes the pipe becomes weak and pinches up anyway. It was the reason I couldn't figure out for weeks why my...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

ah, right. Could you fit a fixed piece of copper pipe to the engine shaped like the original hose? you could then fit rubber pipe from that to the heater core.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

!The heater core pipes on Marinas were always badly placed. Even with standard engines those lower heater pipes are extremely close to the manifold.

Re: MOT exemption

My 71 saloon is leaking oil like a sieve from the scroll seal and diff. It's come up as an advisory every year but doesn't fail on that for some reason. I do need to fix it as it's been long enough now and it's not going to get any better. Looking on the DVLA website, it said my car may be MOT exemp...

Re: MOT exception

Yep, sorting PTH out now as we speak ready for the nats. Would probably sell better over one without an MOT if I ever decide so.

Wow that looks like it was a mission!! Did you put a smear or oil or grease on new filter seal? I find it helps when trying to remove it next time.
Dave
It was indeed a mission! Yes, I always smear a bit of oil on the rubber. I think I read that in PC years and years ago

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Well, that was a nightmare to get off  Did a quick oil and filter change on PTH earlier. 20180516_161924.JPG That filter was stuck fast! I tried everything from a filter chain tool to smashing a screwdriver through it to turn it. Had to chisel the thing from the base in the end and even that to...

Re: Mk2 1.8 HL Automatic update

Could it be the gauge stabilizer? It would be last to check on the list but I've had issues with these things on a couple of mine. For the longest time I thought my car was overheating from either a blockage or dud thermostat.

Re: Mk2 1.8 HL Automatic update

It's just age I think. Reproduction parts, different oils and petrol today and general wear and tear all adds up. I remember the Ital my neighbor used to lend me, it started first turn of the key with no choke and was super quiet inside, so much so, it was difficult to tell if the engine had actuall...

Re: Mk2 1.8 HL Automatic update

Golfs and hipsters, they're everywhere  Yes, you can get a tighter seal with those older clips without stripping the thread. Bicycle spoke cutters are good for getting those old clips off if the screw is dead.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Yeah, Classic Gold is ok when I'm over the bridge. The only strong channels I can pick up here is Absolute Radio and Swansea Sound, though they do tend to fade at night. They play way too many adverts so basically they're never listened to.
