Re: The old steering rack bush trouble

That happened to mine a few months ago. I've used a sharp self tapper to hold it now but make sure it doesn't protrude through the bush.

Re: New Year's Day meet.

I can't see me servicing the cars before then. Five minutes outside and my fingers are falling off!

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

The dynamo is pretty new, I bought it when I was restoring the car. Could have gone bad but I haven't checked. The regulator box was also changed around the same time though it did feel very light and cheap compared to the original but seems to do what it's supposed to do. They either work or they d...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Either way, she needs an alternator as all the lights on the car flicker like candles when driving. People think I'm flashing them and pull over! I know it's the regulator box clicking away but only does it when the battery is starting to die. If the heater is on and especially the heated rear windo...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Not so much what I did to my Marina today but whet I'm going to do. Decided that PTH desperately needs an alternator so will be converting her this week. The dynamo is fine but because I use her everyday I have to charge the battery after a couple of weeks as it slowly dies and becomes difficult to ...

Re: Coupe Rear Screen Rubber

Any plans to get these rear light unit rubbers reproduced?

Not the neoprene stuff now, the actual rubber which always turns to plastic.
I'm sure there would be a pretty big order for these!

Re: Mk one saloon prices

Definitely worth putting some time and money into it. You should see what me and a couple of others on here are working with! They're great cars and values are indeed going up. They usually grab the most attention at vintage car shows too because people suddenly remember them after not seeing one an...

Re: Marina Phase 2 (SRV2)

When I took ownership of TDT one of the previous owners had painted the roof in underseal! On cold days it was fine and actually looked good, even had the textured look of vinyl but when the sun was out it went all sticky. Lost count how many people leaned against it  Many a shirt was ruined!

Re: Marina Phase 2 (SRV2)

Yes, the hight of the underseal line in my town indicated the rank you held on the road
I said that to one of the guys at work one day, he knew it was banter and complete bs so he said "What if you paint the whole car black" I said "That's ridiculous, no one ever held a rank that high"

Re: Marina Phase 2 (SRV2)

Best car I had for all round viability was a mk2 Escort estate. The estates only came in two door form and the rear side windows ran the whole length from B post to C post.

Re: Marina Phase 2 (SRV2)

The Marina could have done with reverse sensors. It's impossible to tell where the overhang is hence not many Marinas left with straight rear bumpers!

Re: Marina Phase 2 (SRV2)

Yes, that's why cars look the way they do now. Not only does the body have to be safe it has to somehow fit around all the safety features under it! Cars are a lot "fatter" now to incorporate side impact bars, side air bags etc without compromising cabin space.
