Re: Dual circuit master cylinder

The great bay of E. I got lucky and found one in Athens for £30 with £40 postage so £70 all in for a brand new servo and master cylinder is pretty nifty. Here's the pics with a part number: allegromastercylinder.jpg mastercylinderpartnumber.jpg I haven't checked yet but one would assume that the ori...

Re: Dual circuit master cylinder

Problem solved!!!

For anyone else that's interested, the master cylinder and servo from an Austin Allegro 73-75 are a direct bolt on. I've just received my shiny new old stock ones in the post. Master cylinder is tandem so plenty of scope for proportioning.

Happy days!

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

9 tooth inertia would be a general standard. Apparantly, some people would have 10 tooth ones if the starter was noisy. Starter cant be jammed as its inertia and only engages with the ring gear when cranked. Otherwise, they're apart from each other. I think the starter can be ruled out as it's tight...

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

Well, disaster! From an engine that turned over by hand when we bought the car, to an engine that now needs ratcheting round with a a socket and breaker due to been tight. Dunno whats gone wrong! I've been barking up the wrong tree. I think it's safe to say that the starter will be good as although ...

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

lol@Mickthefitter. An interesting read and sums up my confusion perfectly. Also in the Haynes manual, it says "Both starter motors are interchangeable and engage with a common flywheel starter ring". Not interchangeable really are they. It's either one or the other depending on which ring ...

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

Yeah it's an inertia starter that i need. The Ring gear is chamfered on the gearbox side. I'm a little confused as according to the Haynes manual, the 2m100 was the pre-engaged type that was fitted. There must be a 2m100 pre-engaged and Inertia available. Haynes manual says that the Inertia type sta...

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

Everything seems good. Made new cables, got good clean earths by sanding. Still not turning quick enough even with a 180amp booster on. I reckon the starter that the local guy made me isn't up to the task. Can anyone point me to the correct Inertia starter please? There's a 2m100 on eBay https://rov...

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

I took the battery off my Range Rover and that made no difference.

Could possibly be a poor earth so I'm gonna go buy all new cables tomorrow and try a rewire.

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

So today i've picked up the Inertia starter motor that the guy was sorting out for me. Engine turns consistently now but far too slow to ever start i think. I took the plugs out to see what it was like with no compression but that made no difference. Do you think that even though it's a newly built ...

Re: Dual circuit master cylinder

Thanks for that.

I thought about an MX5 for a complete pedal swap if need be. It's finding one in the scrappy so i can have a measure that's posing the problem. Plenty on ebay but a bit of a pain to order it on a whim and be wrong.

Re: Dual circuit master cylinder

Thanks. I'll do that.

Parts seem a little thin on the ground.

If not, im told that a MK2 8v Golf servo may have the same stud pattern and bolt straight in. If not, my mates got a lathe so we'll just make an adapter and pick up a servo from something else.

Re: Dual circuit master cylinder

For anyone else that reads this, the answer is no. It can't be done. According to a brake company, there is no dual circuit master cylinder that will fit the Servo.
