Re: Propshaft question / problem
After much thinking I solved the problem of the propshaft cap being too big. I had a bit of an inspiration while playing about with my 2CV based Pembleton. The driveshaft sliding joint has almost identical dimensions to that of the Marina and is protected by a rubber gaitor. A quick order to ECAS (2...

Re: Rear Leaf springs
Just because the springs look rusty it doesn't mean they are shot. Mine looked awful. I bought a single NOS spring from ebay (nobody wanted a single one) for comparison, and was very surprised to find the tempering of my springs was still good. The bushes were of course well past their sell by, but ...

Re: Pre-engaged starter motor
One thing of note is the Inertia starter engages from the back of the flywheel, whereas the Pre engaged engages from the front. The lead on the teeth on the flywheel would need to be the other way round. Im not sure if you could get away with turning the existing ring round or you would need a pre ...

Pre-engaged starter motor
I shall shortly (well this year :-) ) be re-installing the engine in my B series engined Marlin so it is time to think about the ancilliaries. Am I correct in thinking there used to be a pre-engaged starter motor option? I really hate the old school "fling the pinion at the flywheel" type!...

Re: Propshaft question / problem
Thanks Chris. The Marina is obviously more sophisticated than I realised!

Re: Propshaft question / problem
Yes - I think the flange welded to the (very) shortened rear section of the propshaft came from the front. Strange that the designers of the Marina chose to use two UJ's without grease nipples and one with. I guess there must have been a reason....

Re: Propshaft question / problem
Thanks Chris Closer examination revealed that the seal is indeed cork. There's a seller on ebay now who makes them to order - you just specify the outer and inner diameters. I looked closer at the cap and it looks original - just doesn't fit. I wondered if it had come unscrewed a long time ago and r...

Propshaft question / problem
The propshaft on the Marlin is a (very) shortened Marina propshaft. I am pretty sure its just part of the rear section, including the sliding joint. I have a couple of problems with the one I am using for my rebuild the strangest of which is the little cap which screws on and protects the spline of ...

Re: Tyres
Are tyres really this price! Last time I bought tyres for my TC was over 12 years ago and these were Michelins 165, 70, 13. at £56 each fitted. Tyres still on car and passing MOTs. I think you will find much cheaper tyres if you are prepared to go non-original. Brands like Kumho and Toyo spring to ...

Here's a link to a picture on the Marlin Owners website.

He has also done something clever to incorporate a lock out for reverse gear to stop it accidentally being selected.

Re: Gearboxes
Thanks both. Useful info.
The reason I asked is that I am intending to add a remote gear lever. It's a in a Marlin and you need gorrila length arms to reach it by default. There's someone that has already done it on a 1.3 engined car and I wanted to know mine was at least similar (1.8)

Gearboxes
Out of interest, as much as anything else, I would like to find out a bit more (well anything really) about the Marina gearbox. Presumeably the A series and B series gearboxes are different? But how so? Are the gearboxes used anywhere else? I seem to remember they shared some of the internals with T...

I might have a decent used Marina pushrod/clevis in my parts stash if that would help?
Thanks for the reply. Yes please to the "decent used pushrod". Much better than something that almost fits.
Cheers Robin

Clutch Mater Cylinder
The clevis pin hole of my clutch master cylinder is worn past the point of being acceptable. I could, I suppose, weld it up and redrill it but thats a lot of hassle and with my welding skills could be a bit of a disaster. From a bit of research, am I correct in thinking I could use a Triumph Spitfir...
