Re: About to tackle the gearbox, anyone got any tips?

One improvement you can look at is fitting the revised and stronger reverse gear and mechanism from the later gearbox. This means fitting a different lay shaft as well to match (the reverse gear has a different number of teeth) but the reverse gear itself is available from Moss I believe.

Re: BMC/BL Rally peterborough

Good to see two lovely Jubilees side by side.
One quick question, did BL really fit a mixture of the early and later type reversing light set ups to these cars?

Re: Anyone knows what this is for?

These are useless as they damage the wheel finish when you try to remove the hub cap with them.

Re: 1800cc gearbox actuator arm

It has been known for these arms to bend through usage, either that or the ball pin it locates on has become dislodged and is not allowing it to sit properly.

Re: Another film with a Marina appearance.

There's a lovely shot of a TC Saloon in Michael Caines' 1974 film The Black Windmill, It was on over Christmas and I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it. (Its seen breifly when he is at the auctioneers)

Re: * DO AFTER MARKET WHEELS SPOIL THE ORIGINALITY OF THE CAR? *

Aftermarket wheels are fine in my view, though it should be a 'period' item as most moden wheels simply look odd on an old car. They can simply be unbolted and the originals refitted if desired so no real harm is done to the car.

Re: *** THE CANNIBAL MARINA ***

Sadly most of the damage done to Marina numbers over the last 25 years or so has been from Minor/MGB owners looking for cheap engines and a few other bits. The 18/22 Princess suffered from having a couple of desirable parts to offer others, its front calipers have no doubt claimed many which were pe...

Re: Should BL have launched a 'HOT' version of the Marina?

Sadly the oil crisis killed any real 70s Marina Muscle Car hopes, the ultimate being made with a P76 4.4 litre V8 and a SD1 five speed box.

Two lovely cars in a sea of dire pick ups and SUVs. BL could have made their own super poney car, by dropping the 4.4 P76 V8 into the Marina Coupe, plus a few modifications to keep it on the road (just!). That Falcon is fantastic, one of the smaller US cars of the period, so one can see why the Mari...

The Allegros front pannel is double skinned and one of its few rot traps. I'm sure the club were looking at having a batch remade, but £500 for an original molested one?
I know they are scarce, but that is simply stupid money!

Wow, what a swap there Frank. If anyone will give that car justice it will be your good self. Looking forward to a full ST replica, looking at the front grille, was it painted like that by ST or is that an addition? Genuine Special Tuning cars are certainly up there with the holy grail of Marinas, j...

I've often thought that it was the engine range in the Marina/Ital range which really let it down, don't get me wrong a 1300cc A series is ok, but a 1098cc one? Regardless of the gearing it's one underpowered product. I've sometimes thought that a 1500 diesel version could have sold well but again t...

Leyland really caught a niche market with the Marina pick up, there was no Escort or Viva or Avenger pick up offered, indeed I think the only real competition came from the Japanese. I've often had the hunch that it was Leyland Australia who wanted a 'Ute' version of the Marina, but did they sell ma...

Spotted on another forum, I gather everything is for sale and there seems to be a good number of projects here.
