Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
The only cause for concern in your pix is pic 5 & 6, inside out rust which will never get worse if you keep the car in a dry garage and dont intend to use it in the rain.Anyway, changing a front wing is relatively simple and not too expensive. I think from your pix the car looks burnt orange ra...

OK guys, here's some pics of the rust spots. What do you think? Easy to fix? marina tc 1.jpg marina tc 3.jpg marina tc 6.jpg marina tc 7.jpg Are any of these serious enough to warrant the use of a barge pole? Anything that could indicate worse stuff lurking under the surface? Or am I just being a wus?

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
heavy steering sounds to me like seized trunnions - maybe that car hasnt been near a grease gun in 5 or 10 years! Wouldn't surprise me! :( Would benefit from a proper service - engine started first time and ran quietly, gearbox quiet and shifted well. Clutch may have been subjected to little-old-la...

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
Hopefully the salesman was just full of BS when he claimed he'd had lots of interest (8 phone calls) and that all older English cars were selling for double what they expected (Mk2 Escort 1.3 4-door for $3,800/GBP2,000). :x A little concerned about the rust on the drivers mudguard and along the base...

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
Had a look around and a short drive. The car has some rust spots :- - rear of drivers guard in front of the windscreen - leading edge of the left front mudguard (dodgy accident repair?) - under the trim below both side windows, at the leading edge of the chrome trim, behind the B pillar - panel belo...

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
Can't say I've seen one in brown before, either. Cream seemed to be one of the most popular colours for Marinas in NZ - my old one was cream with a brown "Starsky and Hutch" stripe (down the side and up the "C" pillar, but not over the roof!). A lighter shade of brown was popular...

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
The photograph is taken in bad light, perhaps the car is really a non metallic bronze rather than chocolate -perhaps a search of the colour charts will reveal a more attractive shade than these crisp but poorly lit pix! Muddy browns were popular on Aussie cars in the early '70s. Will drive out to t...

NZ$1,500 = GBP600
NZ$3,000-4,000 = GBP1,100-1,500

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
No sway bars as standard. OZ Marinas website http://www.leylandp76.com/marina/index.html has a Modern Motor road test (1973 iirc) of an experimental "TC Plus" that had a Selby front sway bar, and I have pics of a Marina Six with front and rear bars, but pretty sure it would be aftermarket....

Re: 1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
Great minds think alike :D $1,000 - $1,500 was the price I had in mind - should be able to get that past the finance committee. Looks to be in really mint condition - would be reluctant to fiddle with it much. Perhaps just tweak the suspension - sway bars, telescopic front shocks, maybe lower...

1972 Marina 1750TC Coupe 50,000km - good value?
Turners Auctions have put an estimate of $NZ3,000-4,000 on this 50,000km one lady owner 1972 TC Coupe (NZ new Aust 1750). Looks to be in great condition (pity about the chocolate brown colour!). http://www.turners.co.nz/Vehicles/Pages/Vehicle.aspx?RefID=634388&scrpage=sea Any comments on the pri...
