Re: Rear seat back removal
Ah, my bad. The rear seat back is attached by two slots at the top and two moveable flanges at the bottom. If the seat has never been out then the bottom flanges will be riveted to the rear axle hump. If it’s been removed before, they are usually held on with self tapping screws. Once the bottom fix...

Re: Rear seat back removal
There should be a pair of ‘S’ shaped hooks, they loop from the rear footwell vertical kickplate into the leading edge of the rear seat base, pulling it back, so it fits under the back rest. Have a grovel in the footwell and check underneath the leading edge of the seat. They use the tension in the w...

Re: Please help me find an Ital rear anti roll bar bracket
On the Marina/Ital, the rear anti-roll bar body mounts are tubes through the rear chassis rails, never a separate unit. As the ARB was never originally fitted to a Minor, someone (perhaps your father) had the brackets fabricated, so I think that you will need to do the same.

Re: 1.7 and 2.0 O series compatibility. Replacement or replacement parts
I'll leave this information here as it is the most comprehensive chat on O Series parts, also to settle some previous assertions about the O Series cylinder head and its unleaded capabilities. I have checked the parts manuals for the Marina MK3 1.7 and the Ital 1.7/2.0. All version of all years used...

Re: Engine swap for 1.8
I’m sure it would, however in the UK they are like the proverbial Rocking Horse Poo! I did some research on the BW45, in the UK it was only used on Hillman (Chrysler) cars, not sure if any European cars used them. If anyone has one, they have a 4 speed automatic box in their hands. No over driven to...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Hi, I just looked up the compression readings in the BL Marina & Ital manuals for the 1.3s. Marina/Ital 1.3 1971 to 1984 Saloon, Coupe, Estate Low Compression engine should show 170 psi (Compression Ratio 8.0:1) High Compression engine should show 190 psi (Compression Ratio 8.8:1) Commercials - ...

Re: Engine swap for 1.8
Hey Kilroy - long time no see! Mk1 Marinas like Larry’s will have had the BW35 auto box as standard, just as robust as the later BW65. I think the changeover date was 1976

Re: Cheapest Marina car insurance
What I said was, “little or no risk of paying out on the classic”. To expand on that. No risk at all if third party (Act only) only, as your car is only covered for the damage that it does to other vehicles etc. Little risk of fire and theft as the number of thefts of classics and the number of car ...

Re: Cheapest Marina car insurance
From an insurers perspective, if you have a modern car as well, they assume that you will use that as your everyday car, which has the effect of reducing the miles you put on your Classic car. The less mileage you do, the lower the risk of you having an accident in the Classic car. Although with Act...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
The oil raising the compression pressure definitely points to piston rings. Just a thought though is the engine a low compression Van/Pickup unit or a higher compression Passenger car unit? Do you have your actual readings?

£80-£90 is a good price for 12 months Comp cover.

Re: Radiator expansion tanks & windscreen washer bottle
I use Milton Fluid, used for cleaning baby stuff, together with glass container cleaning balls, which are little copper balls like lead shot, but reusable. I steal my wife’s ones that she uses to cleaning flower vases. The opaque/white plastic comes up a treat, just swill them round and then strain ...
