Re: Gearboxes

I don’t know about NZ gearboxes. I guess that if the car was a knock down kit from the UK, then it will be the same as the UK box. If it was an Australian export, you’ll need an Aussie expert to advise.

Re: Gearboxes

The bellhousing, gearbox casing and tail shaft are exactly the same on a 1.8/1.7 & 1.3. If it fits on a 1.3 it will fit exactly the same on a 1.8/1.7.

It’s an interesting idea, any pictures?

Re: Gearboxes

This is a quick synopsis, others I’m sure will fill in the gaps. Gearbox casing (known as the single rail gearbox) shared with late Spitfire (Mk4 & 1500), also the inline Toledos and the Dolomite (1300, 1500 & 1850), also early 4 speed TR7s. The Marina/Ital 1300 version has a 7/8” diameter i...

Re: Radiator hoses

Hi not sure whether you are in the US or UK or that you have been offered a US bottom hose from your comment. This is the MK1 cooling page from the BL Marina Parts Manual, it covers both the 1800 & 1300, the 1800 bottom hose is P# 6. It quotes several part numbers and against the USA & Canad...

Re: Clutch Mater Cylinder

I have found this, both sides shown, it’s very slightly oval, I should have taken the picture from directly above the clevis hole to give a better picture. The shiny bit is where I rubbed it down.

Re: Clutch Mater Cylinder

From memory I think that the pushrod arm on the Spitfire clutch master is a little shorter and the interior piston has less overall travel. I have seen them used on Marinas though.

I might have a decent used Marina pushrod/clevis in my parts stash if that would help?

Re: Marina Racks

On the racks that I have opened up over the years, those that have had grease in them have tended to choke up as the grease hardens, becoming stiffer. Those with oil (as long as it has been topped from time to time) have been fine. The factory manuals all recommend 90W oil (same as for the gearbox a...

Skip just asked me today about Rear Screen Rubbers - he’s out too. East Kent Trim Supplies are the only show in town I’m afraid.

Re: Ignition Timing for O Series

Good advice from David.

David - I agree with the additional retardation for unleaded, but I have noticed that I have been able to advance the timing by about 2-3 degrees since the introduction of E5-E10, so closer to old leaded fuel settings.

Re: Ignition Timing for O Series

Ital 2.0 - dynamic timing - 18 degrees @1500rpm
SD1 2.0 (early) - dynamic timing - 25 degrees @2500rpm
Ambassador 2.0 single carb - dynamic timing - 15 degrees @1500rpm
Ambassador 2.0 twin carb - dynamic timing - 18 degrees @2000rpm

Take your pick. All figures from factory manuals.

Re: 74 10cwt slave cylinder alternative?

As if by magic! Yes I can supply reconditioned clutch slave cylinders, clutch master cylinders and brake master cylinders. They are all sleeved in stainless steel, passivated zinc plated and fitted with new (not NOS) seals and piston/spring if necessary. I only sell them on exchange as your old one ...
