The front doors themselves are all the same and will fit any model, van, saloon, coupe etc, but they have differences between mk's. You can straight swap them easy enough but if you want to make a mk1 door look like a mk2 or 3, or vice versa, then there's a crazy amount of work involved!

Sounds like one for the rivet counters!
I was only aware of the Mk3 quarterlight window having a "cutoff" corner for the door mirror.

Re: ARE ALL FRONT DOORS THE SAME?
Yes, the corner on the mk3 is the window runner, one of a ton of differences. Mk2 and 3 doors also have an interior door handle bracket spot welded for the later style handles. They also have holes drilled along the bottom for the door card clips and a hole where the door capping is for the lock button. The locking mechanism rods take different routs through the door between mk's and the mk3 winder mech is completely different to the mk1 and 2. If fitting a mk1 or mk2 door to a mk3 you'll need to spot weld a small piece of window runner inside the door and remove the quarterlight support tab, if fitting a mk3 door to a mk1 you have to remove the later door handle bracket, add the quarterlight support tab and weld on the interior door handle nuts that are missing from the mk2 and 3... and then you have the extra holes to weld up or drill depending on which door is being put on what mk car! Phew, hope that helps!
