Mk 1 Rear lights

Post by paulradio » Fri Jan 04, 2019 9:42 am

Has anyone refurbished the plastic / chrome colour bezel around the Mk 1 rear lights?
I dis-assembled one last night expecting to find clear plastic that was painted silver on the inside. The colour on the inside is dark cream. Is this over the top of the silvering? Ran out of time so didn't go any further. Does anyone know how the unit is painted to achieve the shine?

Have a look at the TDT restoration thread, pretty sure Gareth did the lights on that one years ago, probably in the first few pages.

Not much you can do I'm afraid. Other than re-chroming them you got two options. Chrome paint, which turns grey after a few weeks, or you can use silver leaf sheet which is a bit messy and needs clear coating to protect it but looks good. The pictures on my thread of TDT shows the silver leaf method.
