1975 Hot Car used car feature and 1976 quick update appraisal

Post by mickthefitter » Wed Jan 23, 2019 9:38 pm

I would have liked to have put these is the 'Publications' area but I'm a bit confused by the forum rules about press shots and marketing material, and only one image per post, so I'm putting them here.

First I've got several images making up an article from an early 1975 (January I think) Used Car Analysis for the Morris Marina, using an image of one of the 'WOH' press cars, then a column taken from either a late '75 or '76 magazine giving a brief appraisal of the Marina 2 updates. There were similarly brief appraisals of other new cars like the Renault 20 in the same article. Finally a cropped photo of a customised Marina Coupe at a meet somewhere, still in the mid-seventies.

Wow, that bottom pic is a proper customised Marina! That's the way I remember 'em in the 70s/early 80s. Marinas, Capris, Mk3 Cortinas with Jacked up backs with the axle painted red and a light underneath to show it off. None of this "how low can you go" business back then.

All it needs are the ‘Lakes’ side pipes.

I remember 'Thrush' finned alloy sidepipes as the ultimate choice

Oh yeah, I remember those red painted axles lit up at night. I think they called them 'cruising lights'. To this day, it's much more my cup of tea than the slammed Corsa or VW Lupo with black glass, Cherry Bomb exhaust and occupants with baseball caps on backwards, looking as though they are sitting on the floor of the car.

II reckon it also needs an air scoop on the bonnet, flames painted down the sides, and one of those stickers at the top of the windscreen with Dave and Tracey" printed on - or even the driver's CB radio handle! Oh, and not forgetting a CB radio aerial with a mag mount of course! 8-)
