On inspection we found that the guy that replaced the front calipers earlier in the year, had mounted the left on the right side and vice-versa. With the bleed valves not at the bottom, they were never going to bleed properly.
We switched them over and hey presto!

Not entirely unlike the situation I described on my Mini then in the original post, with the drum backplates wrong-handed, and someone else had suggested the calipers were upside-down. Glad you got it sorted

Glad its all sorted and was simple. But that's the reason cars should have a MOT Every year 1st the bloke who did the job wrong and 2nd the bloke who couldn't see whats wrong are both now able to declare the car safe to drive as it doesn't need inspecting for Safety.

My thoughts exactly. A simple reason for them not bleeding but should he have been doing it anyway with such an obvious lack of knowledge.

Impossible to grumble at that, £2.40 for a Mann oil filter for a 1.8?

Finally managed to successfully join the owners club.
Had to use my work laptop, as my elderly home laptop didn't seem to be compatible with the club site or payment software. Probably time to upgrade...

Yeah but Windows 10 will bend your mind, looking for stuff that was obvious in XP and has either been hidden or removed completely, then there's the fussy cluttered look to the folder navigation panes that's the equivalent to putting tiny station selection buttons on a modern car audio system, and hiding the tone controls inside a menu, instead of just turning a big black knob...locost_bryan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 10:09 pm Finally managed to successfully join the owners club.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Today.....I started her. I haven't got her into winter storage yet and we've had a cold snap north of Toronto and its been full out winter and -13 degrees celsius tonight. So I put a magnetic oil pan heater on her and started her up after several days of increasing cold. She complained a bit but fired and settled down to a somewhat grumbly idle.
I'm quite satisfied.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Mine went into winter storage in my garage at the weekend. Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but today we've got our first real frost (nothing like -13C!) which I saw on the horizon from the weather forecasts and in these conditions my garage starts to get really damp, and so does the car, and I refuse to drive it on salted roads anyway so it is now in a Permabag until Spring.
Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
This weekend its supposed to get much warmer, and rainy. So hopefully that happens, washes the worst of the crap off the roads and I drive her over to winter storage.

Installed a 3-dial cluster. Now looking for the lower «wood trim» if anyone have that they want to sell.
