Mag arrived today but, is the print meant to be that small? My recent eye test confirmed I have perfect vision so I can only imagine how difficult it'll be for more senior members. I could read it ok but only just.
I'm not having a dig, just bringing up a potential issue. I did prefer the front cover in the style of the Unipart logo too. I'm a cheeky sod!

I'm used to having members comment on the size. I've not had any letters recently and was getting a little lonely...

You could be right... I wanted to change it around a bit. When building it the text looked fine on my mac at 100% Maybe we need to go A4... The size is actually bigger but the font is different so maybe it is that making the difference.

As for the logos, they can always make a come back. This one was a little experiment, that I wanted feedback on. Sometimes the only way I get it is to make changes that are very significant. The size of the text was not supposed to be one of them!

I've just opened up the new mag on getting in from work. I wear varifocals and I can read the text, but it looks smaller and greyer than the old font. I play around with fonts when I'm typing letters and things. Is the new font Arial or Verdana, and the old one Times New Roman? Anyway I dropped my old plastic school ruler across a lower case letter 'l' in the last mag and this one, and in the old mag it was 2.5mm high and this one 1.5mm high. And just to test fonts out I've opened my email program on the pc and typed three lines, all the same letters, in Arial, Verdana and Times New Roman in font size 10 and they're all different heights! Times New Roman actually looks the tiniest. So if text size has changed unintentionally with a change of font style I can see how that happened. And I imagine a lot more info has been packed into the issue. It is just a bit harder to focus on with my ageing eyes though, sorry! :geek: I can see how much work goes into each issue so I hate making any comment that sounds a bit negative, but either a different thicker, blacker font style or slightly bigger characters would be easier to read for me at least

Yeah, don't get me wrong, the mag is ace. Nice fresh layout and lots of content in it too. The period adverts are always a nice addition as well, I like those  There we go, a positive comment

All valid points.

The font is a bugger and especially as, you are correct, the content is very heavy this time. I don't like pushing out lots of text and leave out the photos. Likewise the way it is laid out needs to be clean as I really couldn't stand the previous version with text edge to edge.

It is difficult to get a happy medium as I like to offer content and not just photos. Previous incarnations of Understeer under my direction have been a bit hit and miss with ratio of content to images. I alway try to avoid the 'Parish magazine' style I've seen from other clubs that just waffle on a bit. Having set articles in the magazine now is great but in an A5 publication it is sometimes hard to squeeze everything in. On the flip side I don't want a magazine that ends up being a photo album. To me that is not what the membership deserves. Not that I am saying anyone is surgesting this, but an editor can become complacent especially when there have been a number out in quick succession recently.

Just for reference I have added the following. All screen captures are not set at 100%. What it looks like on a screen can be very different once it is printed and on paper.

The new fonts have more flavours to them:

Montserrat Light is what I used for the main articles

I can change it to a 'medium' version of the font
