I was scrapping a really shagged Mk3 estate.
It had been locked up in a yard that was not accessible to me since the earthquakes of 2011.
Used to be my address, but as the building was unsafe - it began falling down around me during the main event - it was locked up and all access forbidden.
Until last year.
By which time the estate in question was a loosely assembled squadron of rust.
I placed an old engine block, van gearbox and collapsed fuel tank inside it as that would improve the scrap value.
Then..
I received a phone call from a Marina guy down south.
He had received a phone call from a Marina guy up north.
Seemed the guy up north desperately needed a right front guard.
He had a pickup which was a work vehicle and which had been written off in an accident.
With the Insurance payout in his hot little hand he was still going to repair it, and had somehow avoided surrendering the plates.
He wanted me to get the front guard cut off it.
I arranged that, and sent him a photo from my phone.
Suddenly he wanted the whole car - and I was only too happy to donate it.
I just wanted it gone.
It sat for two weeks.
A truck suddenly showed up yesterday morning and took it away..
Today I received a text from the guy up north saying I could expect a call soon to arrange uplifting it..
I told him it left yesterday and wished him luck.
He thanked me and then voiced some concern about the gearbox in his pickup.
I was able to then tell him there was a spare one in the back of the estate..
I am most grateful that it will enable another Marina to live on.
Cheers all - going to be a great year.!
Another life..
