Radio repairs

Post by Philip » Tue May 02, 2017 8:16 pm

Hi,

I am hoping to get the original radio working in my Marina.. It's just a radio but would be nice to have something to listen to, even better if it can be adapted to accept an MP3 player!
I seem to recall that there was a member of the forum who did this, can anyone remember who??

I really don't want to replace the radio as I certainly do not want to cut the dashboard!
Any idea on price?

Thank you in advance. :)

Yep that's me  The cost is £15 for fellow Marina-ists for an MP3 input assuming the radio has a working amplifier stage (the tuner doesn't need to work). Let me know if you want to ahead with it. What radio is it out of interest? MK1s usually had a Radimobile 1070 or a Radiomobile 80.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for the reply.
I know it's a radiomobile, but what else, I'm not sure.
It's in the garage, removed from the car.
(I fitted another, different type, but that didn't work either. I temporarily fitted another speaker but that didn't help, so I assume I have two duff radios!!)
I will check what radio it is and let you know!
Yes, I want to go ahead!!

If it doesn't have a working amplifier, is it a lost cause??
Can you fix the radio side as well if necessary?

I can have a go at fixing the radio side but I can't make any promises- it could be something really simple or it could be something wrong with the tuning arrangement and needs parts that are no longer available, I do have a good stock of spares for these though

If the amplifier stage doesn't work then we can explore other options such as fitting a modern amplifier inside the old case etc.

I'll PM you my address.

Either will be fine, will let you know the total including the return postage cost once it's done.

Good to hear, thank you!
I have retrieved it from the garage.
It is a Radiomobile "80" I will try and get it posted next week.

Out of interest, what format of MP3 player will it work with and how would you go about turning it on to play the MP3s through the radio?

I fit a standard 3.5mm jack plug so can connect to any device with a headphone socket. The signal from the MP3 player is a lot stronger than that of the radio tuner so it's simply a case of tuning to the end of the medium wave band at 200 metres and pressing play on your device.
