Were they still making Marina vans in 1982? I'm certain they would at least have had the mk3 style front :eh:

I'm not really up on the history of Marina vans, but the reg no. checks out on the DVLA database as a June 1982 registration. It failed its MoT though this year on an excessively corroded chassis leg.

If it's a UK vehicle it should be a MK3 but it might be an "import" from the likes of Malta.

Someone who knows/ remembers more hopefully can fill any gaps- IIRC Marina commercials continued for a short while after the cars finished and replaced by the Ital. They were fitted with plain painted grilles ( same style as this one) and plain painted later bumpers. I see the cab is similar to earlier vans (I thought they were similar to the car but am wrong in this case)

There' a brochure some where on eBay that I' ll see if I can pick up.

It's a UK vehicle, been owned by Harry Hayes for a long time, he rebuilt it a few years ago, was covered in a couple of editions of the Club mag.

Can't quite see it properly but looks to have an early valance I think :eh: I'm not picking at it, I would love this van but it seems all over the place with regards to trim and when it was registered.

Money no object would have it. Brilliant vans in the day. 10cwt useful capacity. As said before had 10cwt springs on the back of my 1300 Estate and could carry anything that fitted without it 'sitting down'.

Those look like very fancy seats in the interior. Surely from something else?

I've looked at the pictures on Flickr. I think the van looked a lot better with a Mk1 1300 grille.

The Commercials got the Ital front end from some time in late 1982, although they already had the A plus low compression engine. My Y Reg Pickup was very late 1982. Harry retro fitted various bits from other cars including the interior.

A bit off topic: How much difference did the low compression engine make? Was the 10cwt axle lower ratio than the 1300 axle to compensate? Thanks.

There was relatively little performance difference between the high and low compression engines. They were fitted mainly to allow business to use cheap 3 Star fuel with 93 RON.

The ultra low 4.55:1 rear axle was used where heavy loads were expected, it help get vans and pickups rolling with a full load on board. A 1.3 engine pulling a 1/2 ton load needs all the help it can get.
