*** FORGOTTEN 1980's CUSTOMISED MARINA SALOON ***

Post by The original northen boy » Sat Apr 17, 2010 12:54 am

While going through some of my old photo of all things Marina and Ital i found this photo of a customised Marina in the back of an album,i know nothing about the car,but i believe the picture was taken in the Mid-to-late 1980's but sadly i don't know anymore about it as the photo was given to me years ago.

I have just bough a new scanner (the old one threw in the towel a week after the guarantee period expired having only been used twice) so expect to see some more extracts from the Russmiester vaults.

A blast from the past It looks like it's been heavily customised.
I wonder if it survived the years ?

I want an exhaust like that!

Great photo- I get the impression I missed a lot by not being born 'till the end of the 80's, but that might not always be a bad thing...

And in the spirit of "Custom Car" this is how the photo should have really been.

Even better for seeing the wholle photo with, erm, additions. It's certainly different. Not convinced I'll be doing that to mine though.

Love that paint job! Looks great :D
It being jacked up almost makes it look like it has had a roof chop

I'm pretty sure it has had a roof chop. The rear window lines look completely different and quite nice actually. Cheers for digging it out Russ.

I think this Marina looks great!,and i agree with number 63 it surly has had a roof chop of a couple of inches, but the custom car look seems a thing of the past dont see that many now, went every year to the Doncaster custom show, ran by Custom car magazine but the last couple of time ive gone it seems more about classic American car and not custom ones
Did you know that the Original Northern boy had a customised Alfa? bet hes kept that quiet.

Ay up Cliff.

The car you mention appeared in the May 93 issue of Fast Car or the December 93 issue of Marina Matters (pre Understeer) under the heading "The Ancient Marina" the cars registration number was XHK 875L ,i only have the Marina matters copy so the quality isn't great and it's in black and white also,if anyone wants i can pop it on here unless Graham (Northeast Marina) still has a copy of the original magazine.

Seems to be all ricer stuff down here in NZ these days. Some pretty amazing money spent adding Lambo door hinges to Civics and RX7 and some seriously good paintwork. 8)
