Woburn Abbey Car Show 02/05/2010

With apologies to George Cloony in "Oh brother where art thou?" This is the Bedfordshire "Soggy Bottom Boys".

Six of us were lined up to go to this and on the morning four of us were brave/stupid/hardy/bonkers (please delete as appropriate) enough to turn up, along with no more than 30-40 other cars, the morning weather was atrocious. Woburn Abbey is a great setting for a car show, beautiful countryside, hot and cold running venison, oops I mean wild deer in the park. In fact the deer out numbered the cars in the morning. Stalwarts from the Ford RS OC, Allegro OC, Renault OC, Ford Granada Hearse OC (really) also turned out as did various single entrants, public visitors were there none. Just in front of us were a bunch of Triumph Stags, the owners bemoaning that their rag top roofs leaked.

If this all sounds a bit down beat, it wasn’t, we laughed, we joked, we commiserated with the food and coffee stall owners, we chatted to the three autojumblers (through their van windows). Slowly the day got better, brightened up, the rain stopped, the ring commentator came over to badger us about joining a show in 2013 and I had the great opportunity to be rude to him – lovely.

Then the wind got up and more cars showed up and we left. So will we go again? Of Course We Will. The alternative would have been lying in bed, listening to the rain slamming into the window. Usually the organisers Greenwood Exhibitions put on a good show for everyone; it was entirely down to the weather.

Anyone else have any soggy stories from this weekend?
