Restore or sell

I have to decide by Friday whether to restore or sell my mk1 saloon, it is basically very solid structurally, needs minor work to rear arches, door skins. Does need a drivers door and bootlid though.

Selling it now wouldn't finance finishing the mk 1 coupe, selling it when done may get me a fair bit forward with it but I will have spent a few bob on a car I won't have anymore.

Also considering a mk 3, could probably get one in a swap deal for the mk 1, still seem to be plenty of takers for tax exempt cars. No idea what to do.

It's always a difficult decision and I'll try and offer my opinion:

A car will always be worth what the next owner wants to pay for it. Not majorly helpful but think what you have paid out on it already and if you think you could recoup this in it's current state.
To sell in a completed form you would almost certainly gain more from the sale but how much profit do you need to fund your next project!

Personally if you think profit can be made on one to fund another then go for it. A little time on one could make a lot of difference.

I have done a similar project recently that will fund another from the profits but it is not easy keeping to a strict budget!

Thanks for your views, I have it booked in at the bodyshop and would really like to see it done. The temptation is to change the colour, wheels ect. Then you probably
reduce the interest over leaving it standard. It's a 1.8 auto so I don't think it will be particularly easy to move on anyway.

Got a real itch for a mk3 too, too many cars(5) and notorbikes(3) around already though!

The way I see it, completing the car will give a bigger pool of buyers. IMHO more people would be interested in a car they can drive away, than in a car that needs work. Whether you'll get back what you've spent is another story...

I didn't make clear in my post that the car is in everyday use and reliable, just can't decide which to let go, which to keep!

If I put this one to the bodyshop. I will end up changing things and I probably shouldn't do that to a mk 1, car is in excellent
condition underneath. My coupe was really rotten and I don't mind messing with that as it would have been left rotting under a
tree for another 11 years! I think this car deserves a sympathetic restoration, could be a very good car, just that I'm not sure
it's the one for me. I prefer a manual box, no doubt you know what it's like, once you have changed one thing about a car.....

Sincerely hope you get a home for the mk3, looks well worth the asking price. Looks kike mine is destined for a similar fate too though.
