I have heard all these stories, and even people i have told i like Marinas have said "WHY DO YOU WANT ONE OF THOSE?" and gone on to tell me half a dozen of the myths Russ has listed.I really enjoyed reading this write up as you still her people say them, and i think it's all rubbish i don't think the 70's were not great for cars anyhow and lots of stuff even into the 90's was poor.i want a Marina i know they're good cars and ain't bothered what anybody says.

I like that. Except i would like to pick one hole in it. Number eight where the use of a cavalier from the seventies is used to descrive what bad handling is.

Well i own both the marnia and 1970's cavalier. There is no comparison. The cavalier out drives the marina every time. Sorry but it is true.

Sorry mate,i think you'll find it says "bad ride" and not "bad handling" and on that footing the Marina is way above the early Cavaliers on ride quality which is "rock hard to say the least"

Erm no, they are not rock hard at all.

Front double wishbone suspension with long soft coil springs and 21mm anti roll bars.

Rear has coil springs, torque tube and panhard rod. Plus rear anti roll bar.

Not only does a cavalier ride better than a marina it does handle better. Since I have both on my drive right now I feel I am in a good place to make that point.

Ok it must just be me then but all Mk1 Cavilers i have driven have been hard to me as indeed all German cars have a "Firm ride (hard)" and were then and still are to some extent "Firm" where as French vehicles from the same period were considered to have a "Soft ride"

And as you said you are in a far better position to comment on this matter than me.

Great piece that.
I am impressed with my cars ability to soak up bumps without sounding like the floorpan has been hit with a big stick like many modern cars.

The Mk1 cavalier is a soft ride by modern standards and from the couple of Marinas I have driven they are slightly softer...maybe down to age.

Retro Picture time!

Actually taken at my house yesterday and 'aged'

I see a school at the back and a road at the front, and if I really crane my neck I can see Blackpool Tower :)
