Marina race cars / dragsters

Post by MGBV8 » Sun Jan 13, 2013 11:59 pm

I know there have been a few done...
Anyone got any photo's of Marina race cars and dragsters??? Or, what about some of the more unusual road cars?

I know there's the yellow van that runs at the pod every now and then and I'm sure I've seen some pictures of a black pro street style coupe.
Thought it might be a fun interesting thread? ;)

There's a race and rally thread somewhere on the forum. You'll know it when you find these pics :-D

Some more info on the mid-engine V8 Marina here.

John Caulton, car was lost in fire in Hastings I think.
Parksy was original brave man, and quick.

Had a Jag rear end in a fabricated sub-frame so could easily have been located further back.

I recall the wheelbase being extended rearwards as a neccessity to accommodate the behind the driver mounted Leyland V8, gearbox and Jag diff/IRS.

Your explanation of this car having the engine behind the driver explains why the driver appears to sit so close to the windscreen.

Then an entry on page 17 from the original builder :-
The Marina wheel base was extended by 4 inches, the motor, gear box and diff were all as one unit and had Jag independent rear suspension with splined half shafts with a top wish bone added. Front suspension had Jag XJ6 suspension which I made up top rocker arms with inboard mounted adjustable shocks. The Motor was a P76 turbo charged.

Does anyone know where this car is now?

Cheers,

Graeme (Black Park)

and a tantalising last comment :-
The Marina is still with John in Havelock North.

Will have to find out if that is correct.

Cheers Bryan! Interesting stuff, eh?

I've always thought a coupe could easily be made to look very mean given the pro-street treatment>? ;)

Latest info on the mid-engine Marina here.
...came across reference to Graeme Parks V8 Marina. Graeme has been hunting it down for some time - he's just found it and and bought it back. It is currently without a motor but he has plans and it will be back on the track in the new year with a Chevy small block.

The black Marina coupe dragster was Black Mass II. There was also a white coupe called Snow Bird.
