1.3 towing

Hello with a braking trailer what's the maximum weight my mk1 1.3 could tow? legally and in reality!! was thinking about a small trailer tent or a very mini caravan its fitted with a healthy 1.3 A+ series engine.

I'm not sure what the legal (or realistic) towing weight is for a 1.3 but mine was able to tow my friends Honda Civic when he broke down about five miles away from me, a very heavy car I may add! On the straights and slight inclines it pulled very well but struggled on the more serious hills and probably would have done some damage if the trip was any longer! A trailer tent will be no problem at all for a 1.3 Marina but if you want a caravan, even a two berth you'll find it will struggle up hills as you have to take into account all the gear that comes with camping!

I used my 1750 Coupe to tow my race mini on a tandem trailer. Don't think it did the gearbox any favours.
