PAO 871R Was mine for a while, I found it tucked away in a garage in carlisle cumbria, it had been there over 20 years, I had the slotmags on for a while, it was a very solid car and never welded the 15000 was genuine and the interior almost perfect apart from a slight stain on the passenger seat (looked like bleach had been dripped on it),it only needed painting because the damp had got to the laquer, I fitted a new old stock rear bumper when it was painted got it from Matt (pontskins) it was a beautiful car but terribly unreliable, I sort of fell out with 1800's after that one and stuck to the 1300's which I never seemed to get any bother with. The clutch was stuck on as I remember but it soon freed off. I sold it to a guy over in hebdon bridge and often wondered what happened to it...I also sold my blue mk3 1300L ERF131T which went to ireland and after that a red mk2 1300 sdl mjp744p which also went to ireland.

Hope that helps

Cheers for the info and pics there Stu, much appreciated. Car ended up in Tipperary (yes, it is a long way…) but shortly after he brought it over the new owner passed away quite unexpectedly, and car was garaged up again for another 5 years with the family not being able to let go. So it's only now that his mate has got around to selling the car on their behalf, and it still hasn't managed to hit the 16K. I suppose a car that's spent so much of it's life sitting in a garage is inclined to have a few reliability problems, but I drove it last weekend and it seemed to be going ok, brakes needing bled and sticking a bit and jumps out of reverse gear, but hoping to get her sorted. The respray is starting to bubble through in a few places but still looking smart enough to do for now. The interior's still in great shape (noticed that small bleach stain but it won't really bother me) except that someone's hacked around the door cards to take speakers from some kind of luminous blue kenwood effort in the glove box (that will really bother me!) Anyhow, car should be arriving with me on saturday afternoon, I'll post a few more pics then. By the way, think I might have a picture of your blue saloon taken at a show here, I'll have a look if I can contain my excitement for a little while from thinking about bronze coupes…

The reverse was not a problem when I had it so a bit strange that would happen with such few miles being added, it had a brand new tank sender, fuel pump and a full fuel line from the tank all the way to the carb in an attempt to get it sorted, it would just randomly cut out, I thought it was fuel starvation or vapourisation as it used to cough and splutter for a bit sometimes it would right itself other times not but it did it on me one sunday afternoon with the misses in with me and a large 40ft artic truck very nearly ran into the back of us so that was that she wouldn't go out in it or to any shows with me again so I sold it on and got the red one.....I would love to buy back the blue mk3 if the chance ever came up or the red one if you ever see it for sale anywhere. good luck with it i'm sure you will have lots of fun...I had the original mudflaps that I took off when the car was resprayed back in 2008/2009 in the garage and only threw them out recently as they were in the way...doh

Thanks again for the info Stu, looks like I might be having more sorting to do than I thought as the fuel problem won't have been fixed, but forewarned and forearmed etc. Had a similar problem once with a 500 Four Honda that was cheaply sorted with a inline filter? Anyhow the roads aroundabout my house are very quiet for testing - no arctic lorries to contend with! I'll start a new thread for any advice when I get the car and hopefully get her running properly.
Would have been cool to have those mud flaps reunited with the car but not to worry, I'd only have put them in a box somewhere labelled 'bits not needed' - to me, mud flaps on a car are like mirrors on a bike - the very first thing you pull off!

I'll see if I can find that picture I have of a blue Mk3, but definitely never seen the red one - I'll keep an eye out though (well always do anyhow) Ireland is a surprisingly small place sometimes.

Mick contacted me a while ago saying he was considering selling it. Might be worth dropping him a line :)

Escort to Marina sounds like a very good plan to me Stu!

Found that pic I took of the blue Mk3 but it isn't your one, actually I think I must have taken it 10yrs ago, and it's a 1.7HL.

Image

From memory, was in very good shape, and think it might have had an ST badge on the back, but I could be wrong. Didn't get to talk to the owner and haven't seen it since, although I seem to remember it was advertised for sale some time after I took this so could be anywhere.
