Why? It's a heap, I think the only good panel was the roof. Although someone has tidied it up a bit since I attempted to buy it (two years ago IIRC- shortly before the Bury Nationals). It was advertised at £450 then as a driving, MOT'd car.

Much better to put one's energy into a more viable prospect- plenty of better cars being broken/ bangered.

I do feel a bit like I'm targeting this poor car- it's not deliberate, it's just because I've actually got first hand experience of it so feel a bit more justified in commenting! But I do struggle to understand the mentality where a £400 heap "must be saved" but a smart original car at £2500 is "well overpriced" (admittedly we are moving on from there now), when it would cost far more than that (in time and money) to get the heap into a condition where it can realistically be expected to have a decent lifespan.

Don't get me wrong- I admire those who do start with a wreck and rebuild it, rescue cars against the odds- but sometimes a dose of realism is required and perhaps letting one die means a more viable one might live on!

Agree Matt. And why 'save' another car that will sit on someone's drive/compound or in a barn, usually with several others and rot there instead as several members seem to do. It's not saved. It's just prolonging the deterioration before the inevitable breaking/scrapping.
I also love the internal anger amongst members when Marinas get bad press yet as you say are so quick to slate cars that are 'over priced'

The fact is there is way more Marinas around than people who want them so pick wisely and don't make a fuss if the odd one is broken for bits to safeguard the others.

how many mk3 coupe are there left figures ??? colour not most appearing but if had the space i d save it. i ve just spent lot of of work restoring another car that not many of think there are worse ones than this one still about to find spares off.
but its all down money terms its sad but true. but thought i d mention it as someone might be looking for coupe later on.

I was looking at that yesterday but £600 is too much for one without an engine\ gearbox, especially after paying for someone to deliver it too.

I would say £600 is far too steep for a battered car with no engine, its a £100 project car and he won't make £600 breaking whats left of it anyway. My own coupe sat unloved for a few years, bought as a project. I could have gone out and bought a mint one but where is the fun in that. I enjoy the fun of getting my cars back on the road.

It's down to what it's worth at the end I guess unless it's the exact model you been looking for and your keeping it. If there's no engine or box then it's probably a better idea to break. If all Marina's got restored there wouldn't be any spares to keep them on the road.

agree with that fun is repairing them could of bought my dad new one but it wouldnt have memories of going on holiday and childhood memories thats why ours isnt for sale but if someone looking for coupe marina breath new life into theres one that might take abit of effort but much better than buying shiny new car

That is the one I owned and tried to buy back, reg LDF 532V. I tried reasoning with the bloke but he wouldn't budge from £600. When I gave it up it was in restorable condition, chassis was good just panels dented. Ran sweet and drove perfectly surprisingly but it was serviced every 6 months from new (apparently).

It would have needed new front wings, bonnet, door skins, sills, rear arches, front bumper, headlight panels and quarter panels (the ones on it were restorable).

Welding needed to boot floor corners, inner sills, under windscreen rubber and passenger side footwell.

He'll probably budge when it starts turning into a pile of rust in front of him.
