Re: 71 TC Coupe on Car and Classic
That's Harry Hayes' one, surprised to see he is selling it as he's had it for years.
Is that boot well full of water?! He restored it a number of years ago but it's getting a bit crusty again. The shell is bent too, when it had new wings and was resprayed the doors didn't fit, so one of the freshly painted new wings had to be cut down!

Yes it is Harry's, I have spoken to him, he's putting it to H&H auctions, so it will be a good test of the market from a TC Coupe. He's also selling his green van if anyone is interested.
Josh - Harry will be contacting you. He thinks that it's the oldest surviving TC, I said that you would be the one to know for sure.

Not really a good measuring stick. Mk2 badges, wrong shade and a vinyl roof. Hardly a good example and as Josh said.
How it won best mk1 rather than best modified at Bury I do not know.

Certainly needs a few items putting right but still looks to be a solid early example.
Screws in the sill trims is always a problem.

Screws in bent sill trim at that...!
It's the fourth oldest TC/TC coupe. I'll pass that onto Harry when I speak to him. Will have to keep an eye out in case he wants to sell Joey although that's similar underneath to my J reg so wouldn't gain much.

The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

Re: 71 TC Coupe on Car and Classic
Well said Barry, i mean its hardly a restoration project is it - a couple of badges, sill trims and those rear mudflaps would have go, to match the front ones.MARINAMADBAZ wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2017 7:45 am i still think its very nice and come on j reg tc coupe's just dont exsist anymore i have spare tc sill trims and clips if anybody buys it at want to put these right shame harry is selling is he hanging up his marina hands now?

How many J reg Marinas are totally original anyway? - I wouldn't like to drive around on a set of 1970/1 Dunlop SP68s that's for sure, and i would think that most of those lovely old red topped Lucas Pacemaker batteries would be pretty hard to keep charged by now!
(Lucas Pacemakers have to be the best looking car battery of all time!)
Having said that i'm sure someone will prove me wrong, Josh?
I was fearing the worst too, i'm glad he's not selling up completely, Harry is a Marina legend isn't he?
Re: 71 TC Coupe on Car and Classic
As always with originality it's how far you take it. Certainly there aren't any J regs out there I know of with original tyres and battery etc although I still dream of uncovering a WOH or WOK press car in a dusty garage untouched since 1971! I guess because the early cars were quite well built most seem to have kept their original features, and very few have been restored. It's whether you want original originality, or something that has been restored to make it look original (e.g. fitted with incorrect panels and trim at some point, now being put back to as it left the factory).
Glad to hear he isn't selling up completely, it did worry me when I saw this post as I wouldn't have thought after owning it for so long he'd be parting with it. I wonder what car he'll be keeping then as he has Joey the J reg and a white 1.3 SDL coupe.
