Hazard warning devices are not required on vehicles first used before 1 April 1986, but if one is fitted it must be tested. The hazard warning lamp ‘tell tale’ may be a separate light or the same as the indicator ‘tell-tale. However, it mustdavid painter wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2017 2:46 pm My feeling on hazard warning lights as an MOT tester, is that if fitted to an older vehicle than the compulsory testing date. Which from memory is 1986 they are not a testable item. Nowhere it the testing manual does it say things are to be applied retrospectively. If anyone wants to know the exact date and wording in the manual I can look it up when back at work on Tuesday.

I agree. If fitted ( whatever it may be ) they must work regardless of what year the regulations came in.

Same thing with rear seat belts, if their fitted they must be used and working correctly. Not sure of the date they became legal requirement though. I'm sure the law changed again on them recently but haven't looked it up yet to see what exactly.

That's what I always believed. Certainly my MOT tester used to make me take the retro fit lap belts out of my early 60's Land Rover come test time as they weren't up to MOT standard, but it was fine to test them without. I've also taped up non functioning side repeaters on a vehicle fitted with them but pre- dating them being a legal requirement.Morris McKinnon wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 9:29 pm Same thing with rear seat belts, if their fitted they must be used and working correctly. Took the coupe to its first show this year, good turnout but I was the only Marina and it got quite a bit of attention. I don't do many shows, prefer the road runs but this was a nice venue.

Fitted another steering bush to Phil's Ute. Really easy to do in situ especially doing it the second time in a month!

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Fitted the new slave cylinder to REP earlier. Extremely light clutch for some reason but works fine. I first thought maybe the master had blown a seal but I drove it up and down the driveway and the clutch bites mid way travel so it's fine
Carburetor float chamber has stopped leaking too since fitting the new valve, all that's left now is a bit of welding which I hope to get done this Sunday.

Also Fitted a bush to steering rack of mine today, and swoped the wobbly prop for a good used one. Also noticed there was too much play in the nsf wheelbearing so nipped it up and it's all gone.
Yet to drive it, fingers crossed!

Ordered a new slave cylinder for my Brown Coupe, got to repair the red nylon clutch hose though. Then take the box out and free off the clutch.

No the first one we fitted was to another car.
Reading back I can see how it sounds we did it to this one twice!

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Today I swapped garages that contain the coupe and the Mumford so I can do some prep for the nationalson the Mumford. Usual thing, new battery, blow up tyres, free the clutch ( getting the hang of that). I'm not sure what state the interior will be in,it's looking like it may be in four different colours if the upholsterer can't fit it in,my fault,I should of chased him more.
