They seem to be a helluva lot tougher than the 4 speed 'box. I'd do as you suggest, oil change and swap the filter out, stick it back in and see how it goes.

Didn't know they had a filter in them, something to look at when the weather warms up, but overtime pay coming in handy

I thought the filter was a Land Rover addition, in the transfer box adaptor housing. Not fitted in SD1 & TR7 applications

Ahh, you might be right there- mine certainly has one but now you mention it I think it's in the lump tacked on the back- sorry.

I found this some years ago on a Dutch SD1 website. LT77 gearbox rebuild in 5 parts (left side of the page) even I understood it.

Front suspension has been stripped cleaned painted, new bushes, Torsion bars upgraded ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Removed rear axle, replaced pinon oil seal, new rear springs and poly bushes, new shock absorbers, and had a look inside my fuel tank.ImageImageImageImageImageImage
