Are saloon and coupe seats the same?

Post by balmy » Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:34 pm

Can anyone tell me whether the seats ( front and rear ) are the same between saloons and coupes? Are MK1 seats the same as MK2?

Any info would be good.

Thanks

No !! they're all different between the marks and the models !!

mk1 front seats will swap but coupe and saloon rear seats are different , coupes are squared off and saloons are rounded !! This goes for the rest of the marks , although they sometimes can be made to fit !!

And I think (waits to be corrected) that mk1 seats are bolted to the floor and mk2 are on runners?

You are correct Sam. The Mk1 coupe (early types) were bolted to the floor, the later Mk1.5 types were on runners.

You are right about front seats, but back seats are exactly the same, at least on the 1974 models Austin Marina :)

Rear seat squab is different, in as much as it curves, whereas the coupe one is straight. But if you fancy the comfort of decent MK3 seating, get them & simply strip off the covers, foams, etc, & fit them them to your original seat frames. If you have a early type seat, piece of cake, straight on, later types with the little lever on the side to flip the backrest forward are a little more complicated, but it can be done never the less.
I'll get some pictures on next week of some recaro rover seats I've modified to fit my mates pickup, now they are clever!

Best wishes

Brian :D
