Norwegian Mk2

Post by GTowner » Fri Mar 12, 2021 7:16 pm

Hi guys,

Long time away, but since my old GT has come to light in recent months, hopefully I will be back behind the wheel of a Marina soon!

This was my old GT, back in the day. Whilst I have been told it still exists I am yet to see it in the flesh and I know getting it out of its 25 year home will take some work as it's now blocked in with shipping containers!

But, I have been scouring the tinternet for anything that can help with the resto of the GT and came across a MK special coupe for sale in Norway. I have tried via the site it's posted on to make contact but to no avail, so I wondered if any of the member in here may know the owner, the car or somebody that may be able to help me make contact.
The add was listed initially in mid Feb this year so hopefully the car may still be available.

This is the car as listed.
Anybody know anything that might lead me to the owner? I would happily head over to Norway and buy it, when we are allowed that is.

Phil

Hi Phil,
Do you still own the white GT? Or did you sell it?

Are you back in to the Marina's?

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Phil!
As it so happens I live only 30 minutes away from it :-D
I have seen it in person some years ago and it wasn’t too bad then, would be a shame to part it out. But what it desperately needs is a respray both inside and outside. I’d say it should be worth at least half of what it’s advertised at.

Here is the ad for it on our main sale site here in Norway:

https://www.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?fi ... tInfo=true

Do you need me to roughly translate the ad for you? :)

Btw. I have a rusty body and some parts from a scrapped special just like this one if you get stuck hunting for more parts

Hi JubileeNut

No white GT is long since sold and like everyone said at the time, very much missed. Sold it as we were due to move abroad ( which didn't happen in the end) along with Franks Van which I had also.

This last year, since being back in Oxfordshire I have been keen to get a Marina again. Finding out that the old rally car GT still exists was a bonus, although that project may stall if it turns out to be too far gone or unmovable. Restriction lift will allow me to get to it to see, but I remember I stripped much out of back in the day, so cannot remember just how much is left.

I'm sure you still have the nice Jubilee, have you succumbed to any more?

Hi enthusiastic youth.

Translating the ad would be great if you could.
I'm keen to chat with the owner about maybe buying, when travel permits me to visit Norway.
Do you know the owner at all?

Your special parts sound interesting. Might help with my Gt resto. Maybe you could send me some pics. Always interested in MK2 bits.
Thank you

One of my co workers apperently knew who the owner was but I don’t know him personally. I can get his email or phone number for you.
The ad is mostly filler material but the main points read:
‘’was originaly a 1.3 DeLuxe but has had a 1.8 swapped in with matching gearbox’’. It didn’t pass our equivalent of an MOT i 2019 because of ‘’it needs handbrake adjusment, change brake fluid, needs a right steering rack boot, too much play in upper left front balljoint and CO2 levels are too high.’’ Also says the gearbox needs replacing but a used one is included. Original radio, tow bar, minimal rust, seats have no rips but the bodywork needs a respray.
All in all a nice little project ;)

The Special I have sitting was my uncle’s dad’s car and have been sitting outside for atleast 25 years or so. Was going to scrap it in november but didn’t have time. Alot has been stripped of it, including front and rear suspension. I don’t have any pictures of how it sits currently but heres some I took when I got it. Theres holes int floor, inner and outer sills, wings, roof, along the bottom of the rear quarter windows etc...

Hi there, an email address would be great. I can start dialogue with him then at least.
Thanks for your help.

Your special shell needs plenty of love that's for sure.
Do you have any of the trim and bright work saved from the car at all?

I sent him an email and awaiting a reply. The bumpers have some light rust spots in the chrome and the rear bumper is slightly twisted. Stainless steel trim ain’t too bad, door panel boards are wavey but the vinyl itself is nice apart from a few cuts in the left front and could be rescued with some work. Rear seat is mint but slightly discoloured. I dont need most of it, but I have to double check everything I have once the snow round here melts

Hi there,

That's fantastic, thanks for your help.
Your spare parts may well be of interest too.
I have a good friend who needs similar parts for his car so as and when we visit the car perhaps we could meet you too.
Thanks again for your help.

"I'm sure you still have the nice Jubilee, have you succumbed to any more?"
Hi Phil,
I still have my Jubilee and can't see me moving it on. I have not got any more cars as I could not do them justice. I spend a lot of time mowing grass in the summer trying to keep my Mum's place sorted as she is no longer able to do the work. Also my son Lucas is now 12 so he helps with the ride on mower (Does not need much asking as he loves driving a 4x4 articulated Stiga with power steering!) while I do the tricky banked areas which can take 4 to 5 hours on their own!
so my house has not had much love. So if I had another car it would sit there with no garage :-(
My Son wants a Land Rover and I still dream of having a MK1 Mini or MGBGT V8 but I would have to let the Jubilee go for that to happen in the current situation. So just dreams. If I had a change and got more garage space I would be on the look out for something to restore as I loved doing my Jubilee.
