Which tyres for Superlite 7x13 alloys?
Evening all
I’m thinking of getting a set of Superlite 7x13 alloys, to fit a mk1 saloon. My question is, which tyre size options would suit these rims?
Cheers

Barmy & Kilroy on here should be able to advise - they both have been running the same on their Marinas.

I previously ran 185/55 which I think looked better than the 215/50 I’m running at the moment.
The 215’s have some interaction with the arches on full lock in the front and big bumps on the back.
Personally I’d go for 195/55 - I’m just going to have to wear out my 215’s as quick as I can!

205/60x13
I think the profile looks suitably in keeping with the age of the vehicle.
And you don't lose gearing..

Thanks guys, for the info, links and pics, bloody great! Just what I was after. So for clarity, the only tyres that present issues with arch rubbing are the 215’s, all the others are ok?

The 205's also make contact with the inside lower edge of the front guard, but that has more to do with the fact that these Superlites are 7" wide with 100mm backspace - which is the minimum required to clear the suspension upright - so the outer edge of the wheel rim is further toward the edge of the body, and the wheel now rolls further fore and aft when turning.

Thanks Kilroy, and great info too. I have to say those rims look great on your estate! I’ve purposely opted for these 7” rims so that the arches are properly filled with wheel/tyre, as I feel that standard rims, even the wider TC rims, still sit too far under the car and it all looks a bit odd.Kilroy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 9:17 pm The 205's also make contact with the inside lower edge of the front guard, but that has more to do with the fact that these Superlites are 7" wide with 100mm backspace - which is the minimum required to clear the suspension upright - so the outer edge of the wheel rim is further toward the edge of the body, and the wheel now rolls further fore and aft when turning.

Strangely enough, you will also find that the rear axle is not mounted centrally in the body.
With my Superlites and these tyres, the left rear wheel arch will make contact with the outer edge of the tyre on full compression.
The cure is quite simple, as there is a fold on the lower edge of the arch which extends maybe 3/4" inwards, and this can be tapped upwards and is not visible externally.

I have some 7" widened steel rims and they behave exactly as the Superlites do as regards clearance issues...
