Axle spring saddle dims
Has anyone got a marina axle out where the distance apart and size of the spring saddles can be measured, I think the mgb axle has a 20mm difference but that was vague leaf spring measurement and I don't know the saddle dimensions to copy over.
Many thanks

Re: Axle spring saddle dims
41 and 1/2 inch (1054mm) from outside to outside of saddle mount
37 and 3/8 inch (950mm) inside to inside of saddle mount.
The above was measured with a very slight bow in the tape as it went along the centre back of the diff casing.
Its all I could do without getting technical with extending the saddle mounts out to clear the diff and make a perfect inline measurement.
Saddle mount width - 2 and 1/8 inch (54mm ).
This is for a standard 1.3 / 1.8 MK1 back axle.
Cheers,
Paul.

I can’t help with the dimensions, but I do know that FordEscort Mk1 spring saddles fit very well and are available from Ford rallying suppliers.

I will shortly being replacing the saddles on my axle - I have some of the Escort saddles and they do appear to be a good fit.
I would be interested to know how you intend to locate the new saddles correctly? You can locate laterally using a tape measure - but how about "rotationally". I am not sure that's how to put it! - so that the axle propshaft flange is still at the correct angle!
Cheers, Robin

Re: Axle spring saddle dims
Best bet is to knock up a simple U shaped jig out of 30mm box section that bolts to the flange and picks up on the saddles of a stock axle then it can set the position of the new ones,,obviously that's maybe a moot point if there is no axle to begin with !

Re: Axle spring saddle dims
Cheers Trunnions FTW.
Having examined my saddles carefully they are rusted through mainly on the flat part that the spring rests on. The "sides" where they are welded to the axle tube are mainly fine. So I think I will make a repair rather than a complete replace, welding in a section cut from the Escort saddles that I bought. That way the position will remain untouched.
