Fan belt fit

Post by Woody » Fri Jun 16, 2023 4:44 pm

Hi all, my Marina ate my fan belt recently, so I bought a replacement from Rimmer Bros (part no. GCB10813) I also checked this with various other parts companies, and all came back with that part no. for a 1.3 1980 Marina. (printed on the belt is: PIX-X'tra Force AV10 813 La)

However, it doesn't seem to fit! The alternator has been brought in to its closest point , but can't be made 'closer/smaller'. I have put the old (split) belt next to the new and they look, to the untrained eye, to be the same size. I even put string around the fan/alternator and so on just get a measurement and this also measures up to the new belt.

However the belt simply does not want to fit into place. What am I doing wrong? Am I going mad? Or am I just being dense?

Cheers

Having checked my Current Gates Catalogue 1.3 Marina with manual transmission and alternator ( MORRIS MARINA SALOON 1,3 10/78-10/80 E) should be a 6271MC belt which translates to 10 x 838mm measured on its inner face from the Unipart number listed GCB10813 you have a cogged belt of 10mm wide by 813 mm long ( some 20 mm to short )
Hope this helps
Dave
