for a while we have had the 145R13 Cinturato CA67 for the earlier and smaller engined Marina. However Pirelli have now made a 155HR13 Cinturato CA67 which is the perfect tyre for the Mk2 and the Ital.

Are tyres really this price! Last time I bought tyres for my TC was over 12 years ago and these were Michelins 165, 70, 13. at £56 each fitted. Tyres still on car and passing MOTs.

Interesting. In Australia and NZ the standard tyre was 155 x 13 on the fours and 165 x 13 on the six. In NZ they would have been a locally made version of the Dunlop Aquajet or Firestone Cavallino. Not cheap today!

I think you will find much cheaper tyres if you are prepared to go non-original. Brands like Kumho and Toyo spring to mind. Some of them at least have classic looking tread patterns,
Although the tyres may be passing the MOT they are probably past their best. The MOT man only fails them if there are visible problems.
They tend to get hard as they get older reducing performance. You will probably only notice if you have to do an emergancy stop or approach that bend a little too fast

Yes they are starting to get hard. Spare is still perfect new and not hard. Not sure I can get the same tyre now. Not fussed about a classic tyre tread just buy ones that work well. Cheap tyre may peg out earlier than a Michelin. These have stood up well.
