Fantastic!
Glad you've actually got to enjoy driving it at last Mick! Will remember to check the exhaust should I encounter a poor running car in the future...

Yes, I know....of course the other major frustration with this car, which was impossible for me to know about, was the fact that, according to my garage man, someone had put the wrong springs in the original distributor. Which is why the timing always seemed wrong after I'd set it. It now has a Lucas 45D of the correct type salvaged from some barn in Lutterworth, and it is fine.

I didn't know you had DBV Barry, that is the one that Matt and then Stu had isn't it?

Hmm...I do wonder if it comes with extra lumps because it is an auto. A long time ago when I had my Mark 1, someone told me the tinny starter screech is down to a thinner flywheel than on a manual car. If it's true, it follows that there's less flywheel mass to even out the lumps. Also the engine tends to stop very abruptly when switched off, which is consistent with a light flywheel not being able to carry the engine round. It's just so long since I owned that Mark 1, I can't remember if it was the same.
