Water pump gasket

Post by paulradio » Wed Apr 12, 2017 2:21 pm

So I've just unpacked a new water pump for my 2.0 1980 Estate. Should I use the paper gasket dry (onto clean mating surfaces) or use some sealant as well? If so any recommendations for what type.Thanks.

I like Hylomar Blue applied sparingly to both surfaces. Golden Hermetite used to be okay but it seems to be extinct. I don't care much for silicone type sealants except around a bath.

So long as the mating surfaces are clean the gasket shouldn't give any issues fitted dry. I've fitted water pumps with just the gasket on a few different cars including my current Marina and no leaks to report.
