Re: Wacked by an ambulance tonite
Been onto insurance this morning I need advice do I claim for the car been not my best of the fleet the car only valued at £600 or do I not claim and get car back for bits good engine, axle ,telescopic front end interior, etc and loose a bit of money but get spare parts for my other fleet wot would you do I do have 3 more Italy the damage is quite bad rear quarter wheel arch roof creased rear window popping out chassis may be twisted as wackedd rear wheel which pushed axle moving spring mounts etc I'm OK these old cars are quite strong u know wot I don't expect was an non emergency ambulance not stopping at a crossroads and waking me and sending me spinning across the other side of the road the car was still going in gear but the prop had come out of its joint I'm presume this is because the axle got waked and moved.
Cheers baz

Bummer! Hope you are alright Barry.
You legally have to report the accident anyway (they don't ask if you've made a claim any more, it's "any accidents or claims" so they'll screw you over any which way if you are honest about it), you should be able to claim on the insurance and buy the car back from the insurers as salvage.
However it might be less faff just to get it home and break it yourself.

There's nothing to stop you contacting the Ambulance Service asking for compensation for the obvious neck whiplash that you must have sustained in a crash like that.
Re: Wacked by an ambulance tonite
Not really a fan of that Chris, it's part the reason insurance is so blummin' expensive...

Re: Wacked by an ambulance tonite
If it was a non emergency ambulance not stopping at a give way he/she needs to take their test again and consider a different career! Without due care and attention should be the least they're done for. Sorry to hear about the car and glad you're okay though be aware sometimes things can kick in some time later. My stepfather lost a kidney, or most of it, after appearing uninjured in a rear shunt in 1998 but became ill weeks later. Took ages for the correct diagnosis, emergency op by then and then a court case. It probably won't happen but its something to be aware of. It was where the seat belt pressed into his side and an unknown congenital weakness he had. Sad to see the numbers of cars reduced again by something like this.

Re: Wacked by an ambulance tonite
Re. The claim or not to claim question, do you not claim for the car, but then request to buy it back for salvage? My sis did this in '85 over her Escort shunted outside our parent's house. I'd just spent a week tidying the car up and it looked good pre-accident. She was offered £700, bought it back off the insurance co for £100 so kept the car and got £600, and sold it to a mate of our uncle in the trade for £120. Didn't make a lot and in our youth I did all the letter writing cos my Astra had been slightly biffed too, and it was our uncle that put us up to do this, but that's the principal.

Oh dear Baz, even if it was an emergency they have a duty of care to not cause another one!
I would try and get as much as you can and keep the rest of the car.
