Re: oil filer to block
They are the same as the MGB. There are two types, the early one with an upright oil filter and the later one with a hanging filter. For a 1971 car it would be the upright filter. You should find a used one on eBay, or new from MGB Hive. https://mgbhive.co.uk/product/12h3273-mgb-oil-filter-housing/

Don"t forget the MG Midget, 1975-1979. Due to rationalization, it had the same basic engine, and same trans as the Spitfire(no OD option tho). Rationalization, is that a Brit euphamism?
Kinda - The pre-1975 Midget gearbox was a hangover from the days of the Austin A40 and the Morris Minor. The ...

Re: Help refitting gearbox to engine
If I remember correctly, the centre of the crankshaft hole is deeper than if you measure at the edge of the hole, the counter-bore is the correct dimension for the spigot bearing, the centre hole is deeper to accommodate the tip of the input shaft that pokes through the bearing.

Re: Another clutch question
There are several methods of clutch slave removal, but there are some common steps.
1. Disconnect the clutch feed pipe from the slave.
2. Knock the mushroom headed pushrod out from between the slave and the clutch release arm - I use a large screwdriver.
3. Remove the large rubber cover from the ...

Re: Rear shock absorbers
The crush tube in the middle of your shockers are quite thick, if you are careful you should be able to drill or ream out the holes to 1/2”.
Alternatively, if you can push out the existing crush tubes with some sockets in a vice, you could then push in some correct dimension tubes, either from your ...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Recently fitted the 2.0 camshaft to my 1.7 Ital, this week I changed the needle and spring and installed some colder plugs and set up the timing and tickover, she idles lovely at 750-800.
Subjectively, she feels very torquey and peppy. A quick trip up the local dual carriageway, showed 70 mph very ...

Re: 1.7 and 2.0 O series compatibility. Replacement or replacement parts
Yes that’s right. ‘High compression’ pistons for the Marina, Italy, Ambo, SD1 are all 9:1, so not super high. “Low compression” pistons are 8:1. You’ll get a little more performance if you use high compression pistons. The low compression pistons were used so the the likes of Royal Mail could use ...

Your picture hasn’t uploaded.
The 2.0 crankshaft is part number BHM 1152 it should be cast/stamped into the crankshaft somewhere and the 2.0 high compression (car) pistons are CAM 1382.

I agree with David, replace the pair as a kit from the same manufacturer. The BL parts manual lists both the Borg & Beck and the Laycock clutches as standard fitment, and I’m not aware of any advantage to one over the other.

Re: Another clutch question
The original style nylon clutch pipes are very robust and I agree better than the modern replacements. When handling, don’t be tempted to turn the metal pipes in the plastic, as you can break the seal, making them leak. This writes them off.

Re: Hunting for morris marina van front discs
I run braided hoses, to bleed them I use a bleed pipe that has a non-return valve in it, dumping fluid into a large jar. I fill the reservoir and then work the pedal/master cylinder. The fluid is pushed out of the open bleed nipple, when the pedal comes up, the one way valve closes and the level ...
