Re: 1.8HL auto - update
Thought it was time for an update - not that there's a lot to tell. The fine, hot weather in July tempted me to go for a few longish and random drives. I clocked up 200-odd miles over three afternoons. The car behaved pretty well although it got a little too hot when I was stuck in a traffic queue ...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Today I finally did what I bought the car for. I took it for a good long drive. 80 miles around parts of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Lovely weather for it and every mile was a pleasure.

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
And that part, Rick, I assure you, is a mystery to me too! When I removed the Kenlowe fan and disconnected and took out the wiring to it (all bright green, I might still have some of it at home) I assumed the fuse was there only for the fan, but naturally left the fuse where it was as there was no ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
After a month of inactivity (plain laziness to be honest), progress at last with the fuse box mystery. I'd been fiddling around under the bonnet doing unrelated stuff. Having completed my tasks I found the wipers, washers, indicators, reverse lamps etc., etc weren't working. I remembered the same ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
Just re-reading your post where you removed all the fuses, one of the things you said still worked was the heated rear screen. So at the risk of stating the obvious, that’s a high load circuit. Not the kind of thing you want un-fused!
My thoughts exactly. I used the HRW twice last autumn with ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
The logical place to look is behind the fuse box I suspect wire have been chopped off the back and joined together with inline fuse holder. Have you check to see if any voltage of fuse 1 terminals in fuse box
Dave
I've not looked very closely yet. There is one in-line fuse holder visible, just ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
Oh right. So North Cowton might not be responsible for the under dash fuse holder. Mind you there is that supplementary Lucas fuse holder under the bonnet near the battery, that used to run power to a Kenlowe fan, that wasn’t needed once I got the radiator re-cored. That will probably be one of ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
Rick, if you’ve got time, just out of curiosity look at invoices in the history folder from North Cowton Service Station, as I’m nearly sure (but not quite) something was detailed in their invoices relating to a fuse box. Either them, or Simon J Robinson before them, who Pont.skins on this forum ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
Didn't have much time today but had a preliminary fiddle with the fuse box. First off, I found that everything controlled by fuse #5, which I'd replaced a couple days ago, were once more NOT working. My fault. Despite my efforts on Saturday, the fuse holder was still not gripping the fuse tightly. A ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
You sound far from dissatisfied with it Rick! When I had my lowest points I had a right good moan about it on here!
The thing that I’m sure a lot of people will find amusing, and I did mention it somewhere in my very early posts, is that at auction I didn’t realise the HL was twin SU.
Give ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
I stay in touch in case I can offer any guidance over things I did to the HL while it was mine, and also to possibly defend myself ( not necessarily from you Rick!) over things that may be discovered that were there before I bought it, though a lot of people on this forum kept up with my posts. I ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
The PO has by-passed the fuse, potentially and hopefully there is an in-line fuse protecting the circuit. I think the big power draw there is the heated rear screen, this really does need a fuse.
As it happens, I used the HRW once, last autumn. I was surprised to find it worked perfectly ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
I must admit I never saw the tin foil coated fuse - I wouldn’t have allowed that to remain if I had!
Michael. The dealer from whom I bought the car had used it for a few weeks prior to selling it. It's possible that the tin-foil-fuse treatment might be his doing. No way of knowing. At least it ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update
And now another mystery. The car, a Mk.2 has the later fuse box, located above the parcel shelf, with five fuse holders in it. Mine only has 4 fuses fitted, in holders 2 3 4 and 5. Nothing in holder 1. Referring to the Haynes manual, where the wiring diagram for the Mk.2 HL/GT contains numerous ...
