Wipers

Post by Daveylozzy » Wed Nov 27, 2019 8:03 am

Hi,
The windscreen wipers both go off the screen at either end of the wiper stroke. Can anyone offer me some advise please?

Wrong gear in wiper motor. should be stamped with a Deg number on the large gear. I had similar issue using a land rover wiper motor but it did not wip all the screen.

Where do the wipers park?

Agree with David in that wheel boxes are the most likely candidates. You might improve things a little by taking the wipers off, withdrawing the wiper rack from the wiper motor end, turning the two wheelboxes through 180 deg. and reinserting the rack- the wheelboxes wear over the arc of travel so in theory this will mean that your wipers are working over a less worn section. It helped on my Triumph but it didn't fix it!

Wheelboxes are the same as a Triumph Stag if I remember rightly, and generic "cut to length" racks are available.

Stag wheel boxes available from Rimmer Bros

On a side note, wonder if the Stag's pantograph wiper arm would have cured the early Marina's tendency for wiper blades to lift off the screen at motorway speeds, rather than BL's "fix" of using the LHD wiper pattern (which left an unwiped area by the A pillar)?

I think you could fit pantograph wipers to a Marina as it has the provisions for both left and right sweep.
Would look pretty unique! ..and I have thought about it to be honest

Australian Marinas (and Series 2 South African Marinas) retained the original wiper pattern, and most magazine road tests commented on the wipers lifting at speed. This seemed to be caused by the airflow around the windscreen getting under the blade. I partially cured mine by fitting clip-on plastic "spoilers", that added a bit more force on the blade as the arm got vertical (or broke up the airflow). Not sure if the pantograph would stop the lifting, but would get the blade closer and more parallel to the A-pillar.

Hi,
Thanks for all your thoughts. All I've done for now is move the Passenger wiper further away from the bottom of the screen. It still goes off the screen a wee bit at it's furthest travel, oddly, exactly the same as before i moved the wiper, but not enough to bother me.
