IVOR DENNEY wrote: Mon May 04, 2020 6:49 pm DAVID the yard at WHIXALL was the one you drove over canal bridge to get in ,he seemed to acquire body shells that had been damaged on the assembly lines . I can remember going with a mate who runs his own car body repair business to buy a marina pickup body shell that had been damaged on the assembly line ,he used a marina van for a donar car for the running gear and built himself a rust free pickup.
Yes that's the one he used to get a lot of new BL stuff he used to drive around in a series 3 XJ6 the fell off the transporter
When the receiver was sorting out he had 50 XJ6 series 1 bonnets a pile of Marina MK2 bumpers that hadn't been fully Chromed a pile on TC grille frames and a load of N/S/F Ital doors all NOS

More bonnets than mk1 XJ6s!
In the end it was all scrap to him. He crushed two Silver spirit full rear quarters that he wouldn't sell for less than he wanted.. rather scrap them. Tons of new bumpers . I just had no storage let alone the money to buy! Then I bought thousands of radios off him

Some footage of the yard here:

I'd would've liked to have a rummage around that place. Getting few and far between these kind of places now.

Wow all that stuff!!
Funny people scrap dealers though.
A mk1 1.3 SDL in Harvest Gold appeared in my local scrapyard a few years ago. I bought a few bits off it and asked the guy if he'd put it in the corner of the yard while I could come back and get some more, he just said "I've no interest in old cars it's going in the crusher tomorrow"
Thing is he still wanted top money for the stuff I did get.

So here's how I found the Ital and two escorts I tried to buy...unsuccessfully.
I got the Maroon one after this at a much cheaper price and 12 months mot.ImageImageImage

Can you remember what that silver racing car type thing was in the top picture? Looks interesting.

The odd thing is the Prees site was previously owned by Rubry Owen. Who were one time large component suppliers to BL looking at the pictures of the scrap the Triumph's Jags's MG's ( Think Rostyle wheel) Leyland Comercials and the Nuffield tractor a lot of these components have gone full circle back to where they were made to die

Is that why there were so many crated up bumpers?
There were just too many to go through.Image

Did they sell stuff off from there when it closed then or was everything just crushed. The picture of the yellow allegro looked like it should have been in a showroom.

Some nice old commercial stuff there too.
The Leyland Super Comet looks in decent condition, as those ergomatic cabs had a reputation for rusting badly, as demonstrated by the AEC Mammoth Major also in the yard. The Bathgate G cab Terrier cab looks ok too.
Nice threepenny bit cabbed horse box, i remember those BMC/Leyland FGs as breadvans.
The Atkinson recovery truck looks like a Black Knight 8 wheeler, the ash framed cab is decomposing nicely.
Commer TS3 powered opposed piston 2 stroke (fab engine noise).
Wow, i can't get over how much incredible stuff was in this yard, every click of the mouse shows another gem!
Thanks so much for posting this link, takes me back to my time working in a commercial scrappers in the mid 80s. Lots of old Leyland stuff, Marathons, Clydesdales, Lynxes, Bisons etc. One of the lads had a brown Ital too!
