Kit Car's, Marina Murderers or welcome relatives ???

Hi, trying to resurect an old Marina kit car conversion built some years ago. Car has a fabricated chassis and body but esentialy everything else is a Marina. Keep looking at the forum with interest as a lot still relates to this car.
So my question is this :- are kit car owners Marina murdering scum who should be made to wear fiberglass underware until they see the error of there ways

:shock: i brought up this subject not long ago. i take great exception to your statement that 4 of the members of our club are being classed as scum. it is a company that builds them ie pilgrim marlin etc.that is completely different to a minor owner raping a marina to upgrade their car. two of our kit cars have retained the original registration of the marina and are now on the v5 as marina convertible. to accuse my members as scum is bang out of order

sorry, please read the post carefully. I was asking a question to see how I would be viewed, as a Kit car owner, by a group of classic car owners. AT NO POINT HAVE I CALLED ANYONY SCUM. To do so would be calling myself!!!!!!

8) yes they should be regarded as allies. the four blokes in our club are very nice blokes who love their kit cars. by the way the reply is meant to be friendly i just didnt like the murdering scum bit thats all.hope you enjoy the forum and we have more discussions in the future. all the best from over the wall.

Personally i think marina based kit-cars owners are a good thing to this forum and to their owners club.

It's hard to try to draw a line when the marina is no longer a marina. There are some heavily modified marinas both in mmoc and on this forum. That said i put a marina -alternator in my corsair last year and er. well i still class that car as a corsair....

I think that a Marina or Ital based kitcar is OK. We can hardly ask them to put the parts back into the original car can we?

At the MMOC National show there is always a trophy for best Marina/Ital based kit car, sadly kitcar owning members rarely show up so it goes back in the box.

I must admit to hankering after an 1800TC Marlin myself, since I had a ride in one a couple of years ago.

Thanks, looks like I'm a good guy then. I was only using the term "scum" for you to choose to call me personaly- kitcar owner, not to call anyone else. When I speak to fellow owners, we feel you might not understand or accept us. Just wanted to see how you would accept a marina Kit car owner.
I was hoping you would accept us, as atleast we are keeping some of the past alive. Also as no one any longer produces a marina based car any one owning or restoring one shouldn't be stripping further cars as this would have been done at the time of original build. We obviously still would be in "competion" for spare parts as parts on all our cars fail, but we are all probably avid collectors of spares too so could be a source for you real marina owners.
Should bring mine to your nationals, might win a trophy if I'm the only one there.

Hi Bob,

I have to say I agree with everyone here, I think its great that perhaps when the body of a marina is no more, that the parts are kept and used for another good purpose, i.e a kit car. Its a way of keeping the car going in spirit, and just another form of recycling as far as I'm concerned!

8)hi cowboybob. if you go to morrismarinaecosse.com and click on kit cars you will see 3 of our pilgrims. the fourth is almost finished. i have only ever sat in one and have never driven one but i felt there was not a lot of foot room at the pedals but i suppose you would get used to it. as jan says it really is the resurrection of a scrap marina.good first topic.one of our marina based kit cars was at the national but i think his membership of mmoc has lapsed. we are attending a show at selkirk on the borders on sept 16th. if you would like to come then let me know. that goes for ALL mmoc owners.................all the best from over the wall.

Hi cowboybob, welcome aboard mate, don`t take too much offence at some comments you may get on here, as far as the MMOC are concerned all Marina based kit cars are always welcome, and always have been

, over the years they have made some really smart kit cars, I have a friend on the island with a really nice Teal, there was also the Marlin and the Bulldog, what have you got?, any chance of some pics?, you will find plenty of help on this forum, North or South of the border!

how many kit cars are there in the mmoc. at the moment we have 4 but i have located an 1800 bulldog behind a shop in airdrie.would love to take it on but its finding the time and the room.what i do notice with them being fibreglass bodied they dont have a good shine off them,but i still fancy one all the same. how is life anyway on the island.we are mixing with royalty this week at glamis castle.heard it was haunted,maybe with a mad marina owner painted blue and wearing a kilt(bare buff underneath of course) there is a huge autojumble at glamis and it is a weekend event.looking forward to it.hear from you soon.all the best from over the wall ( you see i can be a pheasant plucker.)...........larry

Hi Larry, as far as i know we have about half a dozen kit cars in the MMOC at the mo, they are probably as rare as the Marinas themselves now!, although most of them were fibreglass, some of the Teals were aluminium bodied, and were very nicely finished.
As for this bl**dy weather well what can i say!!, rain, rain and more rain, then if we are lucky an hour or two of sun

, hope it doesn`t rain on sunday, i`m off up to Duxford in Cambridge to see the Flying Legends air show...won`t be much flying if it`s like this

Hi thanks to all for the warm welcome.
I drive a white van for a living, the wife own's a 4x4 and play with a kitcar which at some point caused the demise of a Marina. I'm not use to being accepted by anyone normally

The car I'm trying to resurect is a Pilgrim Hawthorn, a sort-of copy of an AC Ace originally built in 1988 ish from a 1974 marina estate. Engine is an 1800t.c and the car's curb weight is 650kg. Only 100 or so were ever built so it should be quite a rare car. There are a few owners posting on the pilgrim owners site.
Will post a picture as she is now if any one can inform me how?
Would definatly be at the top of the "most modified" section in the Garage. Would love to bring it along to a meet once she is finished but may be some time off yet.
