I'm not sure what you could describe the colour as, because it was an ecclectic mix of some paint I had lying about :D
Let's hope I don't need to do any touching up as I only have 4 litres left over

It certainly looks better than the olive drab when I first got it (it's an ex U.S.A.F. motor) still had special lights fitted to the dash to indicate when it was safe to cross the runway!
Looking increasingly likely it'll be back on the road for the Spring (fingers crossed)
I'll have to see if the before pictures can be developed as I lost the camera four years ago, & only discovered it last week 8)

I'm afraid not Mike it's registered in Steel City, quite aptly for a Marina the suffix is WET, won't be that for much longer, as soon as it's tested I'm off to the local DVLA office armed with my heritage certificate, to tax it & get rid of the Q-plate.

Shame, I hoped WAR was still around but I can't find it on the DVLA site; maybe because it was registered to the USAF first it doesn't appear? I gather it ended up in Lincolnshire.......

Whats wrong with a Q plate? A bit more exclusive (skillful home builds) and distinctive than any other suffix/prefix letter and if it is the pickup´s first genuine UK registration then its authentic too - you could even name the pickup ´Q´ and absolutely no connection to the Star Trek character of the same name :D -

For the exact same vehicle??? How odd, I have learned something about greedy UK insurance companies looking for excuses to charge more.....so Q plate is regarded as a very high risk class regardless of the actual make, model and spec

Yes any old excuse to bump up the premium, there are various catagories of Q plate, the pickup as it was not new when registered for use in the uk, i.e. the date of manufacture was not apparent when the vehicle was registered for the first time, so as a consequence a Q plate issued.
The insurance co's lump all Q plates in the same catagory i.e. vehicles of 'dubious history' and as a result premiums soar, if indeed they will insure you at all!.
So all in all a £10 investment in a B.M.H.I.T. certificate seems like a reasonable investment, especially after a prolonged discussion with the vehicle examiner at my local D.V.L.A. office was taken into account
