Wheel Arch Trims & Clips

Post by MarinaCoupe » Sun Feb 17, 2008 3:35 pm

Hi All,

As part of the rebuild I am going to have the wheel arch trims re-instated - so that I buy enough of the clips, does anyone know how many clips there should be front and back?

Hi Chris, As far as I am aware looking at my parts CD! There should be a total of 20 rivet clips (5 per arch) and 8 bolt on ones (2 per Arch) which go at each end of the trim.

So there should be 7 fixings for each arch! Unless you want to fit more!! But more holes more chance of Rust!

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Paul,

Yes - but not "more chance of rust" but "more rust holes" for sure.

I watched some of the TV rebuild of that MGB last year and the presenter chap - drilled holes in the bodywork for the chrome side trim and then squirted each one with WaxOil and dipped each rivet in WaxOil before rivetting and then wiped the excess off the bodywork.

I thought that was a great idea.

I`ve given up on the clips ,I have made little squares with bolts...

They slide up and down the trim ,the only set back is you have to hold the bolt with mole grips while you tighten the nut...
