Test Track

Post by Kilroy » Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:03 am

Allo allo..
Further to mention in a previous post (will mail you back Russ.. :) ), I thought I would show you folks my test track.
You know - that bit of road where you try it out.!
I am rather lucky to have this road so close by - but I found it to be a great advantage - especially when working on motorcycles - to be able to freewheel all the way back to the workshop if the thing stopped.
It gives a lot of people the creeps to have so little between them and such a major gravitational attraction - but what the heck - if you plough into an oncoming semi-trailer its hardly going to end any better than sliding over the edge here - and yet you might say we risk that every day.
I find its also handy for tuning the nerves after being insulated by safety measures all week..!
This is looking up the hill at a lookout spot about 200 yards from where I sit..

Near the top looking back towards home..

And about halfway down - you can see the first glimpse of the port from here..

Image

Finally the road pops around the bend (arrowed), down to the township, where I have to dodge through the local medical centre to get to my workshop whose roof is circled. We live in the workshop in a space we call 'The Cave'.
For fairly obvious reasons..

Photos of the cave supplied on demand.. :D

Now go and drive that Marina.

Hey
Well its sure a great place to drive - gotta make sure I don't just take it for granted.
As far as living in the cave - well we should ask Sue - we have lived in this tiny space for 3 years - and we're still talking.!
Guess thats saying something.
I know this is a car forum - but maybe sheds qualify.?
Will show you the layout..
Only the red brick building is ours.
Here's Sue outside..

Looking out to the door..

Image

Looking in to the cave and office..

Image

Every space is crammed with a lifetime's worth... the office - where I mostly repair computers..

Image

Life on shelves..

Image

Half the cave - the IT section plus cafeteria..

Image

.. and the indoor sports arena..

Image

Thats it - our entire space. Looks cosy - but beyond the end double-brick wall there is virtually nothing between here and the Antarctic. Can be a tad chillsome in winter...

Many a Marina planned here.. :)
Cheers.

I just Googlemapped your area - that blue house on the hillside above your place stands out like a sore thumb! Can't see many Marinas there though!
Is there actually a train service out of your place or does Google tell lies about the Station?
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

Google take a very long time to update their images.
The view of my yard is at least 5 Marinas out of date.
You can see some though.
And yes - there is a rail service, but freight only.
Since the road tunnel occurred, folks tend to drive...
This may help...
