cylinder head
Hi there, new to the forum and desperate for any help. Having just put my engine back together, I have found a crack running through the cylinder head.
Does anyone know where I can get another cylinder head for a 1972 1.8TC coupe (black tulip)?
Any help much appreciated. Darren 07787 114575.

Re: cylinder head
Hi Darren and welcome,
Got your email, sorry can't help personally.
A bit of info to expand your options. The cylinder head will be the same as any other 1971-75 Mk1 Marina B series 1800 - so one from a DL or SDL will be exactly the same, this will also apply to MGB heads (pre-rubber bumper) from the same period. Heads from the 1975 on Mk2 Marina and MGB Rubber bumper are different as they have the offset oilfeed and require a different rocker post to ensure that oil gets up to the rocker system, also the inlet valves are slightly smaller.
Pre 1971 MGB heads will fit and have the correct oilfeed, but they are slightly taller and also have the smaller inlet valves, so not ideal.
I am sure that someone here will have what you need, what part of the country are you in? When you get a minute, got to the "Newbies Here" section and post some shots of your car.

Re: cylinder head
I have an 1800 cylinder head lying in my garage that has been ported etc but not seen it in a while. If you're desperate for one, you can have it for postage costs.. (Rough estimate 25 - 30 quid)

Re: cylinder head
I regonise that reg you use as your user name. That particular TC came up on ebay a couple of times. If it where not for mine I was very tempted by it especially as its tax exempt.
Are you restoring it all or just the engine at present?

Re: cylinder head
Thanks everyone for the replies! Yep, there he is, nice photo too! I bought it off ebay a year ago and have been using it every day, but it was always running a bit hot. Removing the thermostat housing revealed a lack of thermostat, an old sales trick! It drove from Birmingham to Gosport (where it is now) fine and actually drives really well. I will be fixing up the body work as well, not bad at all, only a few rust spots with the main problem being both wing tips have perished above the lights (stripping back revealed inch thick filler!), and a rusty front valance. I have had the twin carbs restored by Burlen Fuels Salisbury at a cost of £200 and they look beautiful! Someone in the past has added an alarm, graphic equaliser (on the dash) and a CB radio unit! All three now disconnected but still in the car, an electricians nightmare by the look of it as I think I'll be taking it all out! There are also vacuum, amp & oil pressure dials in a central consul, all work well and it looks quite cool!

Re: cylinder head
Could you show a pic of the interior, particularly the centre consol with the extra dials, I have been trying to work out how best to do the same thing?
Re: cylinder head
Mine has them too- 'speacial Leyland tuning' dials :mrgreen:HUR444L wrote: There are also vacuum, amp & oil pressure dials in a central consul, all work well and it looks quite cool!
Cars with them I believe are fairly rare. Love your car-if I hadnt of just bought mine I would have been after yours! Sounds like your doing a good job with it.
Hope to see it in the 'flesh' at the nationals.

Re: cylinder head
Hi, Let me know if you want just the wing tip to repair as I have a old wing which has already been cut near the wheel arch! I think it is a Drivers one.
So the headlamp area and near the door sections are fine.
But no good if you are planning to replace whole wing!
I am not to far away in Worthing

Re: cylinder head
Hi Darren, i`ve got a spare head over here on the Island if it`s any good to you?...send me a pm if you are interested
Re: cylinder head
Just getting a price to get the wings tips cut out/in again. there is a chap in the last magazine that makes new wing tips for £85 I think it is, I'm half tempted to save time and cheat, but that would be naughty and unfair to the car. Uncle Frank may have a cylinder head so fingers crossed and thankyou for the offers so far..photos to follow of the dials (and wings). Cheers guys!
