Hi Captain, i was watching your valiant attempts to put a reasoned POV on the FG website and i saw the sort of responses you were getting, it was a shame it came to that. In all honesty i can`t see this going away for a while and reasoned argument just wo`nt happen when you are up against people who just enjoy taking the p*ss out of you.
Your efforts were much appreciated.

For some reason on the final gear forum they have been sugesting that the Marina was 'trying to be different'. Different in as trying to be the same as most of the other cars around at the time, trying to be a very conventinal car.......

We are dealing with fools who know nothing.

Is there anything to be said for actually writing to the BBC and pointing out that while we can take a slagging, its getting out of hand?

Lies are being told to make us look like a crowd of tossers, and that also our cars are being attacked because Cinderella and the two ugly sisters are demeaning and ridiculing them?

My Mrs works in radio and they take complaints fairly seriously.

A number of us complained the first time around, the response I got back was roughly.

"Yah, boo, sucks, we don't like the car so we're going to slag it off, live with it."

Who did you write to?
Go over the head of TG itself - Mark Damiser? (sp)
Also the stakes are higher now that lads' cars are getting damaged.

I think there are a few now who have complained to the BBC Complaints department me included.

I was going to suggest that if my car got damaged and it was down to TG, and the repair cost was £142 then maybe I should not pay my TV license fee for a year to pay for the damage
That way you could adjust how long you did not pay for the costs of repair - I think that would be fair.
Then it would be like JC paying it!

But I guess there are laws to stop that sort of sensible solution

I explained that 1 complaint is still a complaint and should be treated the same as many from bigger organisations.

The more who complain they may have to do something!
I told them that they should apologise on air to the MMOC for misrepresentation of members and the club and retract some of the statements which were untrue!

I don't hold up any hopes but you have to try.

Paul.

If everyone sends one in, they might take notice?

Sir / Madam

Over successive programmes, Top Gear has been baiting members of the Morris Marina Owner's Club, but it has become rather serious now in that they are lying about replies members supposedly made when no such thing occured.

The derision shown towards the car is leading to vandalism of Marinas owned by members.
We can take a joke, but enough is enough.

How about something like that?

Sounds fair enough, but if I remember correctly there is only one episode of TG left to go. And I can't help but feel this is leading to a "I'm sending a complaint to the BBC and I don't care if they don't read it" momment.

Fair enough, your point about forums is true. But treating members like idiots isn't really going to help the situation, don't forget, while you are on FG you represent the Marina community for everyone to see.
GET A LIFE YANKY INBREADS LOL. You do no that clarkson hates yankys!!!!! Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must say that sort of comment is the bit that people notice, not the argument above it. Somehow I doubt insulting the USA as a nation will help much when most people who watch TG are British either...

WORD HISTORY The origin of Yankee has been the subject of much debate, but the most likely source is the Dutch name Janke, meaning “little Jan” or “little John,” a nickname that dates back to the 1680s. Perhaps because it was used as the name of pirates, the name Yankee came to be used as a term of contempt. It was used this way in the 1750s by General James Wolfe, the British general who secured British domination of North America by defeating the French at Quebec. The name may have been applied to New Englanders as an extension of an original use referring to Dutch settlers living along the Hudson River. Whatever the reason, Yankee is first recorded in 1765 as a name for an inhabitant of New England. The first recorded use of the term by the British to refer to Americans in general appears in the 1780s, in a letter by Lord Horatio Nelson, no less. Around the same time it began to be abbreviated to Yank. During the American Revolution, American soldiers adopted this term of derision as a term of national pride. The derisive use nonetheless remained alive and even intensified in the South during the Civil War, when it referred not to all Americans but to those loyal to the Union. Now the term carries less emotion—except of course for baseball fans.
" American soldiers adopted this term of derision as a term of national pride"
I rest my case.

Dont feed the trolls.

Guys Russ is on Radio Sheffield this Saturday (1st July) at around 12.10pm with Howie Pressman for some Marina chat, with any luck about TG,depends on how the show gets censored, i think Sean will know better than me what the show format on Saturday will but i do know that since the Pope joke that Russ told on air and the Johnathon Ross and Russell Brand do the BBC is even tighter on things that can and can't be said.

 Just a point of interest

In the recent Top Gear (series 13 episode 6 classic car challenge i thought that all road traffic users in the UK had to show a current vehicles road duty excise disc (tax disc) and it be displayed in accordance with stated rules and regulations? Now correct me if i'm wrong and that goes even for the BBC and Mr Clarkson 'obviously driving on a public road fails to display a current legal tax disc check it out on
