Hello all first post after a fun day at the National Restoration show and Stoneleigh! Got to meet the club guys as well today and filled in my membership form...

I hope to be in next years run as long as I can get my newly purchased Marina up and running properly (engine and gearbox Gremlins)!

So happy to join the lineup!

Ooh its a difficult one, join you all, even though it's not a Marina or to Ardingly Show Ground for the autojumble.
Who arranged the dates of these two events so that they clash?
Not a Marina owner, built in 1985 from a 1974 1.8TC MOT failure.
See Marlin History.

Thanks Frank...at last I talk to the legend!

It was a great day, three bags of bits and bobs and £130 lighter at the end of the day (including the £55 I spent on the club stand...)! A winter of replacing and fiddling coming up..new gear box to fit and the engine will probably need to come out for an overhaul. Spoke to a guy called Chris (has a 5 speed apparently)who advised on the stand that with some parts swapping an MGB engine will fit...want to get it running as soon as possible whilst I work on the knackered engine and there are always plenty of the 18V MGB units around...anyone who knows more about this and has advice would be welcome! I take an ironic joy that an MGB might have to die to save my Marina when so many TC's died in the 80's to keep the flat cap MGB brigade going!

Anyway looking forward to getting her up and running for next year and the club has made me welcome...membership form will be in the post tomorrow!

As for the wait it certainly does but I understand the situation with the forum and it pays to talk to the right people who can text the right people ... wink

Thanks all and I am looking forward to the coming year...on another note has anybody got the tow bar kit...I want to fit one as wierdly the new Mondeo I own (Titanium X...leather and quick!) can't take a tow bar and I fancy towing my Suzuki GSXR750 (even quicker!) to the club camp next year! New kit costs £120 which I think is fair but if its is cheaper second hand...

Thanks all and Frank!

 Hardly a legend.....just been hanging around Marinas a while! , glad you had a good day mate, if you need help with the engine mounts, etc just drop me a line, i`ve still got a few old ones kicking around, Ady has recently gone down this route with his 1300 so his experiences may well be of use to you, most of it is fairly straightforward except for the gearbox, which does not fit without a lot of messing about and cutting!...see the state of the transmission tunnel on the Mumford i am currently restoring for Gary!

Thanks Frank!

Can't I just swap the bell housing, back plate, sump, front plate and effectively new overhauled gearbox sitting in my living room (thats the handy thing about decorating and having the carpet up...you can keep oily Marina parts in your living room!).

Rather not have to mess around with the metal work if I can help it!

Actually the gear box is a rather cool story, basically two weeks after getting my Marina the Gear box gave up. I knew it was on the way out when I purchased it so no real suprise (half decent bodywork was my priority over mechanicals) but rather a pain! Trip to ebay and two days after the failure a gearbox overhaul company in Essex posted a completely overhauled unit for a very fair price...one "buy it know later" and I emailed the company who were fascinating. Basically they used to specialise in B-series gearbox overhaul for Sherpa vans plus the various Marina and Ital vans out there, they still get Sherpa gearboxes in now for overhaul and also plenty of orders from the kit car boys for Marina B series gear boxes. The one I purchased was ordered by a Kit car boy who didn't pay up so they put it on the shelf...well she is going on my toy now and I will have a broken gearbox available to anybody who wants it in the club.

TheNostalgiaBRIT

There's lots of info available from forum members on this engine swap - can I suggest that you start a new string in Technical - rather than cut across other strings?
